Karnataka has more Scheduled Castes notified than any other state in India. With 101 SC castes officially listed under the Karnataka SC notification, the state's SC population is spread across its diverse regions from coastal Karnataka to the Hyderabad-Karnataka belt to the Mysuru plateau. If you belong to an SC community in Karnataka and need a caste certificate, the state uses two separate digital platforms for this service: the Nadakacheri portal and the Seva Sindhu portal. Both are government-operated and the certificate issued through either is equally valid.

Karnataka Has 101 SC Castes: Highest in India

Karnataka's 101 notified Scheduled Castes include communities across the state. Major SC communities in Karnataka include Holeya (Adi Karnataka), Madiga, Banjara (listed as SC in Karnataka specifically), Bovi, Kumbara, Mochi, Nayinda, Korama, Koravar, Burud, Dhor, Gosangi, Handi Jogi, Kadukuruba, Kalladi, and many others.

One important and frequently searched point: the Banjara (Lambani) community is listed as Scheduled Caste in Karnataka. This is different from many other states where Banjara/Lambani is listed as ST or OBC. If you belong to the Banjara or Lambani community in Karnataka, you are eligible for the SC caste certificate in Karnataka. Do not use ST or OBC certificates from other states for Karnataka state purposes.

Karnataka's Dual Portal System

Karnataka offers two official digital portals for applying for SC caste certificates:

  • Nadakacheri (nadakacheri.karnataka.gov.in): This is Karnataka's primary revenue services portal specifically for Nada Kacheri (revenue office) services including caste certificates, income certificates, and domicile certificates. Applications submitted here go directly to the Tahsildar of your taluk.
  • Seva Sindhu (sevasindhu.karnataka.gov.in): This is Karnataka's integrated service delivery portal that consolidates multiple government services. Seva Sindhu also handles caste certificate applications and routes them to the concerned Tahsildar.

Both portals are official. You can use either one to apply. The certificate issued is the same regardless of which portal you use.

Issuing Authority in Karnataka

The SC caste certificate in Karnataka is issued by the Tahsildar at the taluk level. The Village Accountant (VA) plays a role in verifying your caste and residence details at the village level before the Tahsildar approves the certificate.

Frequently Asked Questions

The complete list of 101 SC castes notified for Karnataka is available through the Karnataka government and the Tahsildar's office. When filling the application form on Nadakacheri or Seva Sindhu, a dropdown of eligible caste names is shown. If your caste name does not appear in the dropdown, contact the Tahsildar's office for clarification before applying.

Yes. The Banjara (Lambani) community is listed as Scheduled Caste in Karnataka. This is different from several other states where Banjara or Lambani may be listed under ST or OBC. Karnataka Banjara community members are eligible to apply for the SC certificate through Nadakacheri or Seva Sindhu portal. Do not confuse your category based on your community's status in another state.

Both portals are equally valid and both route your application to the same Tahsildar. Use whichever is more convenient or accessible for you. If one portal is temporarily unavailable or slow, use the other. The certificate issued through both portals is identical.

Yes. Your Karnataka SC caste certificate is valid for UPSC, SSC, railways, banking, defence, and central educational institutions like IITs, NITs, and AIIMS, as long as your caste is listed in the Karnataka SC notification under the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order, 1950.

The Village Accountant (VA) is Karnataka's village-level revenue official, equivalent to the Patwari in other states. When you apply for an SC certificate, the VA is assigned to visit your residence and verify your caste and residential details before submitting a report to the Tahsildar. Ensure your caste details are correctly recorded in the revenue records of your village before applying.

For certificate delays, contact the Tahsildar office or raise a complaint through the Seva Sindhu grievance system. For atrocity-related complaints, call the national helpline 14566 or register at nhapoa.gov.in. The National Commission for Scheduled Castes at ncsc.nic.in also accepts complaints from SC citizens.
