What are the official Aadhaar fees in 2026?
These are UIDAI's charges for the fee cycle 1 October 2025 to 30 September 2028. UIDAI says the charges are the same at every centre, and our counter team confirms all centres charge these rates. For what each update involves, see Aadhaar update: fees & limits.
| Service | Official fee | Free cases | Where | Refundable? | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| New Aadhaar (enrolment), any age | ₹0 | Always free | Centre (adults: designated centres only) | — | No fee to pay |
| Demographic update: name, gender, date of birth, address, mobile, email | ₹75 | Free if done together with a biometric update | Centre; address and mobile also in the Aadhaar App; address on myAadhaar | Not confirmed | Name, DOB and gender need a centre |
| Biometric update: photo, fingerprints, iris | ₹125 | Child's update at 5–7 and 15–17; ages 7–15 until 30 Sep 2027 | Centre only | Not confirmed | Demographic changes in the same visit included |
| Child's mandatory biometric update (MBU) | ₹0 | Ages 5–7 and 15–17 | Centre, school camps | — | Must be a stand-alone transaction |
| Child's biometric update, ages 7–15 | ₹0 | Free until 30 Sep 2027 | Centre | — | Extended by one year; UIDAI's older fee chart still shows 30 Sep 2026. ₹125 after the free period |
| Document update (proof of identity / address) on myAadhaar | ₹0 | Free until 14 June 2027 | myAadhaar | — | No change of details, just fresh proofs |
| Document update at a centre | ₹75 | — | Centre | Not confirmed | One UIDAI page still says ₹50; that is outdated |
| Email update in the Aadhaar App | ₹0 | Until 31 Dec 2026 | Aadhaar App | — | ₹75 after that; at a centre ₹75 alone, free with biometrics |
| Address update in the Aadhaar App | ₹75 | — | Aadhaar App | Not confirmed | Own document or Head of Family route |
| Mobile update in the Aadhaar App | ₹75 | — | Aadhaar App | Not confirmed | Needs face authentication; UIDAI says "prescribed charges" |
| Head of Family (HoF) address request | ₹50 or ₹75 | — | myAadhaar | No | Exact fee unclear; lost if the HoF rejects or doesn't approve in 30 days |
| Aadhaar PVC card | ₹75 | — | myAadhaar, the Aadhaar App (in our experience), or a CSC / cyber café | No | Includes GST and Speed Post |
| Biometric-authenticated e-Aadhaar print | ₹30–₹40 | — | Aadhaar centre | — | UIDAI's own Seva Kendras list ₹40 (download + colour print); our team and an older UIDAI FAQ say ₹30 |
| Appointment booking | ₹0 | Always free | bookappointment.uidai.gov.in | — | Only for centres listed on the portal |
| Home service (elderly, disabled, special cases) | Full fee | Not free, even for bedridden people | Arranged with the UIDAI Regional Office | — | ₹700 / ₹350 figures are reported, not confirmed (see below) |
"Not confirmed" means UIDAI's fee chart doesn't say whether this fee is refunded if a request is rejected, and our team hasn't confirmed it either. Ask on 1947 if this happens to you.
Every centre we deal with charges the new rates: ₹75 for a demographic update and ₹125 for a biometric update. Old FAQ figures such as ₹100 for a photo or ₹50 for an address are out of date. A mobile number update at a centre needs no document and costs ₹75. Adults who pay ₹125 for biometrics get their demographic changes included free.
Which fee applies to you: ₹0, ₹75 or ₹125?
Three questions decide almost every Aadhaar fee. Is it a new Aadhaar? Does it involve your photo, fingerprints or iris? And is it a child's mandatory update?
- Write down every change you need
- Do you already have an Aadhaar? No: a new Aadhaar is free (₹0)
- Are you changing your photo, fingerprints or iris? No: demographic update ₹75; document refresh free on myAadhaar until 14 June 2027
- Is it outside a child's free update window (ages 5–7 and 15–17, and ages 7–15 until 30 Sep 2027)?No: the child's update is free (₹0), as a separate transaction
- Pay ₹125 at the Aadhaar centre
- Name, address and other details changed in the same visit are included
| If you… | Then you pay |
|---|---|
| Are getting your first Aadhaar | ₹0 |
| Change only name, gender, date of birth, address, mobile or email | ₹75 |
| Change photo, fingerprints or iris (with or without other details) | ₹125 |
| Do a child's biometric update at 5–7 or 15–17, or at 7–15 before 30 Sep 2027 | ₹0 |
| Only refresh your proof documents on myAadhaar, before 14 June 2027 | ₹0 |
How much should you pay? Real examples
Use these examples to check a centre's bill before you pay. They follow the official fee chart. For your own mix of changes, use the Aadhaar fee calculator.
| What you need | You should pay | Why |
|---|---|---|
| New address, online on myAadhaar or in the Aadhaar App | ₹75 | Demographic update |
| New address and new photo, in one centre visit | ₹125 | The address is included free with the biometric update |
| New mobile number at a centre (old number lost) | ₹75 | No document needed; in our experience OTPs start in 1–2 days |
| Email in the Aadhaar App, before 31 Dec 2026 | ₹0 | Free period in the app |
| Your child turns 5 and needs fingerprints and iris added | ₹0 | Mandatory biometric update (MBU) |
| Your child is 10 and needs a new photo | ₹0 | Ages 7–15 are free until 30 Sep 2027; ₹125 after that |
| Your child is under 5 and needs only a new photo | ₹125 | Our counter team says a photo-only update under 5 is ₹125 |
| Child's MBU at 5, and you also want to change the child's address | ₹0 + ₹75 | An MBU must be a stand-alone transaction, so the address is a separate request |
| Refresh your ID and address proofs, no change in details | ₹0 online | Free on myAadhaar until 14 June 2027; ₹75 at a centre |
| No registered mobile, but you need your Aadhaar printed today | ₹30–₹40 | Biometric-authenticated e-Aadhaar print at a centre |
| Plastic Aadhaar card from UIDAI | ₹75 | PVC card, posted to your Aadhaar address |
When is an Aadhaar service free?
- New Aadhaar: enrolment is always free, for children and adults.
- Child's mandatory biometric update at ages 5–7 and 15–17. Do it as a stand-alone request, not mixed with other changes. Between 7 and 15, a biometric update is also free until 30 Sep 2027. Find your child's due date with the child update due-date calculator. See Child biometric update (5 & 15).
- Document update on myAadhaar until 14 June 2027. UIDAI extended this free period in May 2026; the earlier deadline was 14 June 2026, so some people still think it has ended. After 14 June 2027 our counter team expects the usual ₹75, unless UIDAI extends it again. See 10-year document update.
- Email update in the Aadhaar App until 31 December 2026.
- Demographic changes made in the same visit as a paid ₹125 biometric update.
- Booking an appointment on bookappointment.uidai.gov.in.
Free periods can change. Before you pay for a document update, check on myAadhaar whether the free option still shows.
Old vs new Aadhaar fees: what changed?
Many websites, and even an old UIDAI FAQ, still show ₹50 and ₹100. These are outdated. UIDAI's current fee chart governs.
| Service | Old figure you may see | Fee now | What changed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Demographic update (name, address, DOB etc.) | ₹50 | ₹75 | Current fee cycle, 1 Oct 2025 – 30 Sep 2028 |
| Biometric update (photo, fingerprints, iris) | ₹100 | ₹125 | Current fee cycle |
| Document update at a centre | ₹50 | ₹75 | One UIDAI page still shows ₹50 |
| PVC card | ₹50 | ₹75 | From 1 Jan 2026, as reported by Business Standard |
| Child's biometric update, ages 7–15 | ₹125 (old chart, from 1 Oct 2026) | ₹0 | Free period extended to 30 Sep 2027 |
| Email update in the Aadhaar App | ₹75 | ₹0 | Free until 31 Dec 2026, then ₹75 |
| Document update on myAadhaar | ₹0 | ₹0 | Free period extended to 14 June 2027 |
What comes next: news reports say the next fee cycle (October 2028 to September 2031) will raise ₹75 to ₹90 and ₹125 to ₹150. UIDAI hasn't published this on its site yet, so treat it as reported.
Prints, PVC card and shop charges: which are official?
Only some of what you pay at a counter is a UIDAI fee. Shops also charge for printing and lamination. That is their own service charge, not a UIDAI fee.
| What you get | Who charges | Typical cost | Official? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aadhaar PVC card ordered from UIDAI | UIDAI | ₹75 | Yes, includes GST and Speed Post |
| Biometric-authenticated e-Aadhaar print | Aadhaar centre | ₹30–₹40 | Yes (UIDAI's Seva Kendras list ₹40; our team says ₹30) |
| e-Aadhaar printout or laminated print | Shop or cyber café | ₹30–50 | No, a shop charge |
| Plastic "PVC" card printed at a shop | Shop | About ₹100 | No, not issued by UIDAI |
In our experience a fair charge for an e-Aadhaar print is ₹30–50. The PVC card fee is always ₹75, and cards usually take 15–30 days at our counter (UIDAI's order page says up to 30 days). See Order an Aadhaar PVC card.
What do home service and the Head of Family route cost?
Home service for elderly and disabled people
- In our experience, home service can be arranged for eligible senior citizens, disabled people and some special cases. Prior permission from the UIDAI Regional Office may be needed.
- It isn't free. The full fee is charged, even for bedridden or disabled people.
- News reports mention ₹700 for the first person and ₹350 for each extra person at the same address. We couldn't confirm this, or how to book it. Ask the Regional Office or 1947 first.
Head of Family (HoF) address request
- When UIDAI launched the online HoF address update in 2023, the fee was ₹50. Today it may be ₹75; sources differ, and our team isn't sure either.
- The fee is not refunded if the HoF rejects the request, or doesn't approve it within 30 days. Tell the HoF before you apply. See Update your address.
Are Aadhaar fees refunded?
| Situation | Refund? | Source |
|---|---|---|
| HoF doesn't approve within 30 days, or rejects | No | UIDAI (2023) and our team |
| PVC card not delivered or returned | No | Our team's experience |
| You cancel a booked appointment | Nothing to refund: booking is free | UIDAI Seva Kendra page |
| An update request is rejected | Not confirmed | Not stated in the fee chart |
Missed your appointment slot? You need to book again. You can reschedule up to 24 hours before the slot.
Is the ₹1,000 PAN–Aadhaar fee a UIDAI fee?
No. The ₹1,000 is a late fee charged by the Income Tax Department for linking PAN with Aadhaar after the deadline. You pay it on the income tax e-filing portal through e-Pay Tax, not at an Aadhaar centre. It is not a UIDAI fee.
- Residents of Assam, J&K and Meghalaya, non-residents and people aged 80+ are exempt from linking. For others, an unlinked PAN becomes inoperative.
- Your name, date of birth and gender must match on PAN and Aadhaar. Fixing Aadhaar details costs the normal ₹75. Mismatch on the PAN side? See PAN–Aadhaar link problems.
Step-by-step: Link Aadhaar with PAN.
What should you do if an Aadhaar centre overcharges you?
People report being asked for ₹200 for a ₹75 update. Overcharging is not allowed. A December 2023 news report of a Lok Sabha reply says that, if proven, the operator is suspended and the registrar fined ₹50,000. Many people can't complain because they don't have the operator's ID, so collect the details while you are still at the centre.
- Check the official fee in the table before you pay
- Does the operator ask only the official fee?No: state the official fee politely; don't pay extra
- Did you get a receipt and your update or enrolment slip? No: ask for both before you leave
- Note the centre's name and address, operator ID or name, date, time and amount
- Complain on 1947 or [email protected] with these details
- If proven, the operator is suspended (reported)
-
Check the fee before you pay
Find your service in the fee table or the examples. Say the official amount out loud at the counter.
-
Ask for a receipt and your slip
Ask for a receipt for what you pay. Keep the update slip (for updates) or the enrolment (EID) slip (for a new Aadhaar). It proves you were served at that centre.
-
Write down who served you
Note the operator's ID or name, the centre's name and address, the date and time, and how much you paid. A photo of the centre's board helps.
-
Complain to UIDAI
Call 1947, email [email protected], or file a complaint on myAadhaar. Give all the details and save the complaint number.
You'll know it worked when you have a complaint number. UIDAI's Citizen's Charter sets 30 days to resolve a grievance.
-
Escalate if nothing happens
No answer in 30 days? You can go to the UIDAI Regional Office or CPGRAMS (pgportal.gov.in). See Aadhaar complaint & escalation.
Before your visit, read Aadhaar centres: what to expect.
What fee problems come up, and how do you fix them?
| Your situation | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Asked ₹200 for a mobile or address update | Overcharging; the fee is ₹75 | Refuse the extra, note the details and complain on 1947 |
| Charged ₹75 for each detail when you also did a photo update | Demographic changes are free with a ₹125 biometric update | Ask the operator to correct it; complain if they refuse |
| Charged ₹125 for your 9-year-old's biometric update | Wrong until 30 Sep 2027: ages 7–15 are free (extended; the old fee chart says 30 Sep 2026) | Show the operator UIDAI's Seva Kendra page or the fee box on the 2026 form; complain on 1947 if charged |
| Charged for your 5-year-old's first biometric update | The mandatory update at 5–7 is free | Ask for it as a stand-alone MBU; complain if charged |
| A website says photo update ₹100 or address ₹50 | Old figures | Expect ₹125 and ₹75 |
| HoF didn't approve and your fee is gone | HoF fee isn't refunded after 30 days | Apply again (new fee) and remind the HoF |
| PVC card never arrived | No refund in our experience | Track with the SRN, then complain on 1947; see the PVC card guide |
| Shop charged ₹100 for a "PVC card" | A shop-printed card, not UIDAI's | Order the official card from UIDAI for ₹75 |
| You don't know the operator's ID | Common; you can still complain | Give the centre's name, address, date, time and your update or enrolment slip |
Aadhaar fees for NRIs
- NRIs pay the same fees as residents: ₹75 for a demographic update, ₹125 for a biometric update.
- Online services need an OTP on your registered Indian mobile. Many NRIs without an Indian SIM can't get it.
- A biometric update needs a visit to India; there is no embassy or online route.
- Non-residents are exempt from PAN–Aadhaar linking. If you link voluntarily, the ₹1,000 fee applies.
Region not right?
Fee scams and frauds
- Pay online only on uidai.gov.in pages or in UIDAI's Aadhaar App. Ignore SMS or WhatsApp links offering "Aadhaar update from home".
- Never share your OTP or Aadhaar number with a caller, even one who says your Aadhaar "will be blocked" unless you pay.
- Don't install screen-sharing apps (AnyDesk-type) on a stranger's request.
- Anyone asking more than the official fee is overcharging; complain on 1947.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Aadhaar update fee in 2026?
₹75 for name, gender, date of birth, address, mobile or email. ₹125 for photo, fingerprints or iris. These fees apply from 1 October 2025 to 30 September 2028.
Is the Aadhaar photo update fee ₹100?
No. That is an old figure. A photo update is a biometric update and costs ₹125 at every centre.
Can I change several details in one visit and pay less?
Yes, if one of them is a biometric update. You pay ₹125, and name, address and other demographic changes in the same visit are included free.
Is the child biometric update free?
Yes. The mandatory update at ages 5–7 and 15–17 is free and must be done on its own. Between 7 and 15 it is also free until 30 September 2027; after that it costs ₹125.
Is the online document update still free?
Yes, on myAadhaar until 14 June 2027. At a centre it costs ₹75, and our counter team expects ₹75 online too after 14 June 2027 unless UIDAI extends it. Check on myAadhaar before you pay, as free periods can change.
Do I pay to book an appointment?
No. Booking on bookappointment.uidai.gov.in is free. Centres not listed on the portal are walk-in only.
Will I get my money back if my request is rejected?
HoF request fees and PVC card fees are not refunded. For other rejected updates, neither UIDAI's fee chart nor our team confirms a refund. Ask on 1947.
Is the fee different online and at a centre?
Mostly no: an address or mobile update is ₹75 either way. The exceptions are document updates (free online until 14 June 2027) and email updates (free in the app until 31 December 2026).
What will Aadhaar fees be after 2028?
News reports say ₹75 will become ₹90 and ₹125 will become ₹150 from October 2028. UIDAI hasn't confirmed this on its site yet.
Do I pay the ₹1,000 PAN–Aadhaar link fee to UIDAI?
No. It's an Income Tax Department late fee, paid on the e-filing portal. UIDAI charges nothing for it.
Bottom line
Remember three numbers. A new Aadhaar and a child's biometric update (ages 5–17; 7–15 until 30 Sep 2027) cost ₹0. A demographic update costs ₹75. A biometric update costs ₹125, with other changes included. Check the fee before you pay, keep your slip, and report overcharging to UIDAI's free helpline 1947.
