How does the fee calculator work?
- Pick where you will do the work: an Aadhaar centre, the myAadhaar website or the Aadhaar App. Only the services offered there are shown.
- Tick what you need and enter the person's age. The age matters only for a biometric update, because children's updates are free at certain ages.
- Read each line: the fee ("Free" when nothing is charged), a one-line reason and the estimated total. A print shows as ₹30–₹40, so the total becomes a range.
- Dated offers (child update at 7–15, online document update, email in the app) are checked against today's date on your device.
- The calculator runs only in your browser. It never asks for your Aadhaar number and sends nothing anywhere. Without JavaScript, the table above lists every fee.
Two things the calculator can't settle for you:
- Child's update plus other changes: UIDAI's fee chart says a child's mandatory biometric update "must be a stand-alone transaction". The 2026 forms say written changes are free when done with a biometric update. Ask the centre before you combine them.
- Exact birthdays: UIDAI's charts say "5–7", "7–15" and "15–17" without saying how the birthday on the edge is counted. If the child is right on a boundary, check at the centre.
Under 5: a biometric update for a child below 5 is a new photo only. UIDAI's fee box doesn't list a separate fee for it; in our counter team's experience a photo-only update before age 5 costs ₹125, which is what the calculator shows.
In our counter team's experience, address update on the myAadhaar website also costs ₹75, the same as at a centre (the fee for the Head-of-Family route is not confirmed). For what each update involves, see Aadhaar update: fees & limits; for the full fee list with refunds, see Aadhaar fees & charges.
Not a UIDAI fee: the ₹1,000 late fee for linking PAN with Aadhaar is paid on the income-tax portal, not at an Aadhaar centre. See our PAN guide on how to pay the fee and link PAN with Aadhaar.

Fees verified against UIDAI on 16 Oct 2026 (fee chart, 2026 enrolment and update forms, Aadhaar Seva Kendra page reviewed 9 Oct 2026). Free offers end on the dates shown unless UIDAI extends them; after that, check the current fee before you pay.
Not sure when your child's update falls due? Use the child update due-date calculator.
What is never charged?
- A new Aadhaar (enrolment), for a baby, a child or an adult.
- The enrolment or update form. UIDAI's forms 1–8 can be downloaded from uidai.gov.in, and no fee is listed for the form itself.
- Appointment booking at an Aadhaar Seva Kendra (how to book an Aadhaar appointment). Anyone selling you a "slot" is charging for something free.
- Downloading e-Aadhaar on myAadhaar or in the Aadhaar App.
- Calling 1947, UIDAI's helpline, which is free of cost.
Every centre we deal with charges the current rates: ₹75 for written details and ₹125 for biometrics. Old figures such as ₹100 for a photo or ₹50 for an address are out of date. A mobile number update at a centre needs no document and costs ₹75. Adults who pay ₹125 for biometrics get their written changes included.
What should you check before you pay at a centre?
- Check the official fee in the calculator before you go
- Does the operator ask only the official fee?No: state the official fee politely and don't pay extra
- Did you get a receipt and your slip? No: ask for both before you leave
- Does the amount you paid match the official fee?No: complain to UIDAI with the centre's details
- Keep the slip to track your request
-
Check the fee
Use the calculator or the sample costs. Remember that one ₹75 request covers all the written details you want to change.
-
Ask for a receipt
Ask for a receipt for what you pay, and keep the slip with your request number. You need it to track the update.
-
Compare
Check the amount on the receipt against the official fee. UIDAI says charges are the same at every centre.
-
Complain if you were overcharged
Note the centre's name and address, the operator's name or ID, the date and the amount. Then follow the steps below.
What can you do if a centre overcharges you?
Charging more than the official fee is not allowed. Complain to UIDAI with the details you noted:
- Call 1947 (free), or email [email protected].
- Or file a complaint on myAadhaar and save the complaint number. UIDAI's Citizen's Charter sets 30 days to resolve a grievance.
- No answer? See Aadhaar complaint & escalation for the Regional Office and CPGRAMS.
A December 2023 news report of a Lok Sabha reply says that, if overcharging is proven, the operator is suspended and the registrar fined ₹50,000.
What if the fee you are told is different?
| Problem | What it usually means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The centre asks more than ₹75 or ₹125 | Overcharging; fees are the same at every centre | Don't pay extra; complain on 1947 or [email protected] |
| You are asked ₹125 for a child aged 7–15 | UIDAI's older fee chart still shows the free period ending on 30 Sep 2026 | UIDAI's Seva Kendra page and the 2026 forms say free until 30 Sep 2027; point to the fee box printed on the form |
| Someone quotes ₹100 for a photo or ₹50 for an address | Old UIDAI FAQ figures, now out of date | Current fees are ₹125 and ₹75 |
| You are asked to pay for a document update online | The free period runs until 14 June 2027 on myAadhaar | Make sure you are on a site ending in uidai.gov.in; at a centre the fee is ₹75 |
| The mobile update in the app fails | In our experience it works in roughly half the cases (this can vary); the face scan fails most often | Update the mobile at a centre for ₹75; in our experience no document is needed |
| The centre won't combine a child's update with other changes | UIDAI's fee chart says the child's mandatory update must be stand-alone | Ask what each part costs before you start; see child biometric update |
Aadhaar fees for NRIs
- The fee box printed on UIDAI's forms, including the NRI forms, is the same as for residents: enrolment free, ₹75 for written details, ₹125 for a biometric update.
- NRIs with an address outside India use Form 2 (adults) or Form 4 (children 5 to under 18). These forms say that dispatch to a foreign address may carry a charge, as UIDAI notifies. No amount is printed.
- Online document and address updates need OTPs on your registered Indian mobile. A non-Indian mobile number gets no SMS from UIDAI.
- A biometric update, and a name, date of birth or gender change, need a visit to an Aadhaar centre in India. See Aadhaar for NRIs.
Region not right?
Scams our counter sees
- Fake links or websites by SMS or WhatsApp promising "Aadhaar update from home". Pay online only on sites ending in uidai.gov.in or in UIDAI's own Aadhaar App.
- Calls saying "your Aadhaar will be blocked" and asking for your Aadhaar number or an OTP. Hang up; never share an OTP.
- Requests to install a fake app or a screen-sharing app (AnyDesk-type). Don't.
- Also remember: UIDAI's appointment booking is free, so never pay anyone for a slot.
Frequently asked questions
How much does an Aadhaar update cost in 2026?
Written details (name, gender, date of birth, address, mobile, email) cost ₹75 for any or all fields. A photo, fingerprint or iris update costs ₹125, and written changes in the same request are free. A new Aadhaar is free.
Is a child's biometric update free?
Yes, once at 5–7 and once at 15–17. Between 7 and 15 it is free until 30 Sep 2027, as UIDAI's Seva Kendra page and the 2026 forms show. Outside these ages it costs ₹125.
Do I pay twice if I change my address and mobile together?
No. At a centre, ₹75 covers any or all written details in one request. In the Aadhaar App, mobile and address updates each cost ₹75.
Is the online document update still free?
Yes. Updating your proof of identity and address on myAadhaar is free until 14 June 2027. After that, our counter team says it will cost ₹75 online, unless UIDAI extends the free period. At a centre it costs ₹75. See the 10-year document update guide.
How much is the Aadhaar PVC card?
₹75, including GST and Speed Post. You can order it on the myAadhaar website, and in our counter team's experience also in the Aadhaar App, for the same fee. UIDAI's order page says "up to 30 days" for delivery.
Do I have to pay for the form or the appointment?
No. The enrolment and update forms carry no fee, and booking an appointment at an Aadhaar Seva Kendra is free.
Why does a UIDAI page still show ₹50 or ₹100?
Some older UIDAI pages and FAQs were not updated. The fee chart for 1 Oct 2025 – 30 Sep 2028 governs: ₹75 for written details and documents, ₹125 for biometrics.
Is this fee calculator from UIDAI?
No. It's an independent tool based on UIDAI's fee chart and forms. It runs only in your browser and never asks for your Aadhaar number. UIDAI decides the fee.
Bottom line
Most Aadhaar work costs ₹0, ₹75 or ₹125. Combine all your written changes into one ₹75 request, or do them with a biometric update for ₹125 in total. Check the free dates for children, online documents and email. Pay only the official fee, ask for a receipt, and report overcharging on UIDAI's free helpline 1947.
