How do you use this wizard?

At our counter, the first questions are always the same: what do you want to do, does your registered mobile get OTPs, and which documents do you have? The wizard asks them in that order.

  • Choose your task, then answer one to three questions. Use Back to change an answer, or Start again.
  • Read the result: where to go, the fee, the time (when known), what to keep ready, a caution and links to the full guide.
  • "In our experience" marks what our counter team sees. Everything else comes from UIDAI and other official sources, or is marked "reported", checked on 16 Oct 2026.
  • The wizard runs only in your browser and never asks for your Aadhaar number. Without JavaScript, the table above lists every answer.

Which tasks can you do online, in the app or only at a centre?

TaskmyAadhaar websiteAadhaar AppAadhaar centre
AddressYes, ₹75Yes, ₹75₹75
Mobile numberNoYes, ₹75 (old SIM needed)₹75 (no document, in our experience)
EmailNoFree till 31 Dec 2026₹75 (free with a biometric update)

Name, date of birth, genderNoNo₹75
Photo, fingerprints, irisNoNo₹125
e-AadhaarFree downloadFree downloadBiometric-verified print ₹30–₹40
New AadhaarNoNoFree, in person only

UIDAI says name, date of birth and gender "may be added in phases" to the app; for now they need a centre. Our rule of thumb: if your registered mobile gets OTPs, try online first. If it doesn't, start at a centre.

What should you do before you visit an Aadhaar centre?

Before you visit a centre
  1. Check in the wizard that your task really needs a centre
  2. Do you have the original of every proof, with the same name and date of birth? No: check the document list and fix mismatches first
  3. Find a centre and book a free slot if it is listed online
  4. Do the details on the operator's screen match your documents? No: ask for a correction before you give your fingerprint
  5. Pay the official fee and keep the slip
  6. Track the request online with the number on your slip
  • Originals: centres scan them and give them back. Bills must be at most 3 months old, and a certificate in UIDAI's format is valid for 3 months. Unsure? Use our document checker.
  • Booking: free on bookappointment.uidai.gov.in, with any mobile number, up to two appointments a month. In our experience, centres not listed there take walk-ins only.
  • Timings: Aadhaar Seva Kendras open 7 days, 9:30 am–5:30 pm. The centre our team visited closes for lunch from 1 to 2 pm, so don't arrive at 1.
  • Fee: pay only the official fee, ₹75 for written details or ₹125 for biometrics, and keep the slip.
  • Which counter can do what: in our experience a normal CSC or cyber café can only download, print and order PVC cards. Updates need an Aadhaar operator, and a new adult Aadhaar needs a designated centre.

Living outside India?

What works from abroad

  • Online tasks (download, address and document update) work from abroad only if your registered Indian mobile still receives SMS. A PVC card can be ordered with another Indian mobile, without a preview. A non-Indian mobile number gets no SMS from UIDAI.
  • Photo, fingerprint and iris updates, and name, date of birth or gender changes, need a visit to India.
  • NRIs with a valid Indian passport can enrol on arrival; the passport is the only identity proof and email is compulsory. See Aadhaar for NRIs.
  • Non-residents are exempt from PAN–Aadhaar linking.

Warning

Scams our counter sees

  • Fake links by SMS or WhatsApp offering "Aadhaar update from home". For Aadhaar updates, use only sites ending in uidai.gov.in and UIDAI's own Aadhaar App.
  • Calls saying "your Aadhaar will be blocked" and asking for your number or OTP. Hang up; never share an OTP.
  • Requests to install a screen-sharing app. Don't.
  • Also remember: UIDAI's appointment booking is free, so don't pay anyone for a slot.

Frequently asked questions

Which Aadhaar work can I do online?

On myAadhaar: address update (₹75) and document update (free until 14 June 2027). In the Aadhaar App: mobile, address and email. Download e-Aadhaar and order a PVC card online too (in our experience the PVC card can also be ordered in the app). Name, date of birth, gender and biometrics need a centre.

Can a cyber café update my Aadhaar?

Not a normal one. In our experience a normal cyber café, CSC or digital seva shop can only download e-Aadhaar, print it and order a PVC card with your OTP. Updates need an Aadhaar operator, and a new adult Aadhaar needs a designated centre.

Do I need an appointment at an Aadhaar centre?

Not always. Booking on bookappointment.uidai.gov.in is free, works with any mobile number and allows two appointments a month. In our experience centres not listed there are walk-in only.

How much does Aadhaar work cost in 2026?

A new Aadhaar is free. A child's biometric update is free at 5–7 and 15–17, and at 7–15 until 30 Sep 2027. Written details cost ₹75, biometrics ₹125 (written changes included), a PVC card ₹75 and a centre print ₹30–₹40. The online document update on myAadhaar is free until 14 June 2027. Add up your own visit with our Aadhaar fee calculator.

My mobile isn't linked. What can I still do?

Go to an Aadhaar centre. Add your mobile for ₹75; in our experience no document is needed and OTPs usually start in 1–2 days. Need a copy today? Ask for a biometric-verified e-Aadhaar print.

Is this wizard from UIDAI?

No. It's an independent guide based on UIDAI's rules and our counter's daily work. It doesn't ask for or store your Aadhaar number.

Bottom line

Start with two questions: what do you want to do, and does your registered mobile get OTPs? If it does, most address, document and download work happens online. If it doesn't, or you're changing name, date of birth, gender or biometrics, go to a centre with originals. For help, UIDAI's free helpline is 1947.
