How to Check Aadhaar (Aadhar) Bank Seeding Status and Fix DBT Not Received?
Log in to myAadhaar with an OTP and open Bank Seeding Status, or use NPCI's BASE portal on npci.org.in. DBT money goes only to the one account your Aadhaar is mapped to on NPCI's mapper, not to every account "linked" for KYC. If it is Inactive, missing or on the wrong account, ask your bank to seed it.
- Check status
- myAadhaar or NPCI BASE
- DBT goes to
- One account: the mapped one
- Seed or move
- Your bank, or BASE on npci.org.in
- Status shows
- Reportedly Active, Inactive or No record
- Money stolen?
- Call 1930

How does DBT money reach your bank account?
DBT means Direct Benefit Transfer: a government scheme pays a subsidy or benefit straight into your bank account. The account that receives it is decided by Aadhaar seeding. NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India) keeps a list called the mapper. It records which one bank account your Aadhaar number points to.
- A government scheme sends your DBT payment against your Aadhaar number
- NPCI's mapper looks up the one bank account your Aadhaar is seeded to
- Is your Aadhaar seeded to an account (status Active)? No: the payment can't find you. Ask your bank to seed it
- The money is credited to that one account, even if you have others
- You withdraw it at the branch, an ATM or a bank agent (AePS)
So two things matter. Your Aadhaar must be seeded, and it must be seeded to the account you actually use. If you have accounts in three banks, only the mapped one gets the money.
Seeding is done through your bank or NPCI's BASE portal. UIDAI's myAadhaar only shows the status.
What is the difference between "linked" and "seeded"?
Bank staff and customers often say "linked" for both. They are different things, and only one of them decides where DBT goes.
| Linked (bank KYC) | Seeded (NPCI mapper) | |
|---|---|---|
| What it means | The bank has your Aadhaar in its own records, for example for KYC | Your Aadhaar is mapped to this account on NPCI's mapper |
| How many accounts | Any bank where you gave Aadhaar for KYC | Only one account at a time |
| Gets DBT money? | Not by itself | Yes |
| Where to check | Ask your bank | myAadhaar (Bank Seeding Status) or NPCI's BASE portal |
| How to change | At your bank | At your bank, or on BASE: seed, de-seed or move between banks |
When a bank says "your Aadhaar is linked", ask one more question: "Is it seeded on the NPCI mapper for DBT?"
How do you check your Aadhaar bank seeding status?
There are two places to check. myAadhaar is UIDAI's portal and needs an OTP on your registered mobile. NPCI's BASE portal on npci.org.in shows your seeding status and your mapping history.
- Go to myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in and log in with your Aadhaar number
- Does the OTP arrive on your registered mobile? No: update your mobile number at an Aadhaar centre, or ask your bank about your seeding
- Open Bank Seeding Status
- The status shows one of the reported values: Active, Inactive or No record
- Is it Active? No: ask your bank to seed it
- Seeding is in place; DBT goes to the mapped account
-
Log in to myAadhaar
Go to myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in, enter your Aadhaar number and the captcha, and request an OTP. It comes to the mobile registered with your Aadhaar.
-
Open Bank Seeding Status
Choose the Bank Seeding Status service. Secondary sources report this name; UIDAI sometimes renames or moves services, so look for "bank seeding" if you don't see it.
-
Read the status
Secondary sources report three statuses: Active, Inactive or No record. We haven't found an official definition of each. Treat anything other than Active as a reason to talk to your bank.
You'll know it worked when you see one of these three statuses on screen. Take a screenshot to show at the bank.
-
Check the mapping on BASE if you have several accounts
On NPCI's BASE portal (npci.org.in) you can check your seeding status and your mapping history. Use it when you have accounts in more than one bank and want to know where DBT goes. We haven't walked through its screens for this guide, so follow the steps the portal shows.
How do you seed, move or remove your Aadhaar at the bank?
NPCI's BASE portal lets you seed, de-seed (remove) or move your Aadhaar between banks. You can also ask the bank branch where you want to receive DBT. Forms, checks and timelines differ from bank to bank, so ask your branch exactly what it needs. We don't list a form name or a fixed time here, because we have no reliable figure that fits every bank.
- Pick the one account where you want all DBT money
- Visit that bank's branch with your Aadhaar and account details
- Ask for Aadhaar seeding for DBT on the NPCI mapper, not just KYC linking
- The bank completes the request its own way; keep any receipt or reference it gives
- Later, does your status show Active? No: go back to the branch with the reference, or check on BASE
- DBT now goes to this account
-
Choose one account for DBT
Use an account that is active, with KYC up to date, and that you can reach easily. The mapper holds one account only.
-
Ask the branch for Aadhaar seeding
Take your Aadhaar and your account details. Use the words "Aadhaar seeding for DBT" or "NPCI mapper". If the staff only update KYC, the account may still not get DBT.
-
Keep the proof of your request
Ask for a receipt, a reference number or a stamped copy, whatever your bank gives. You need it if the status doesn't change.
-
Check the status again later
Use myAadhaar or BASE. If it still isn't Active after the time your bank told you, go back to the same branch.
- Moving to a new bank: because the mapper holds one account, moving your Aadhaar to a new bank means DBT stops going to the old one.
- Removing the seeding (de-seed): possible on BASE or through your bank. Only do it if you have another account ready, or DBT has nowhere to go.
- Name or date of birth different at the bank? Fix the mismatch first. See Fix a name or DOB mismatch.
For every other place Aadhaar is linked (PAN, ration, EPF and more), see Aadhaar linking: master table.
DBT not received: what is the cause?
Answer a few questions to find the most likely reason. The table below lists every case we cover.
| Your situation | First step |
|---|---|
| Status Inactive or No record | Ask your bank to seed your Aadhaar (or use BASE) |
| Status not checked | Check on myAadhaar or BASE |
| Accounts in several banks | Check which one is mapped; look at the other passbooks |
| Account frozen for KYC | Complete KYC at the branch |
| Ration or LPG check pending | Do the e-KYC or biometric check |
| All of the above fine | Ask the scheme office |
| Your situation | What happens | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Bank says Aadhaar is "linked", but no DBT comes | Linked for KYC is not seeded. The NPCI mapper may not point to this account | Ask the branch for Aadhaar seeding for DBT; then check the status |
| Status shows Inactive or No record | There's no active seeding for your Aadhaar | Seed it at the bank where you want DBT, or on BASE |
| Money went to a different account of yours | The mapper points to one account; DBT goes there, not to the account you expected | Check your mapping history on BASE; move the seeding to the account you want |
| You opened a new account and want DBT there | DBT keeps going to the mapped account until you move it | Seed the new account at that bank, or move it on BASE. The old account then stops getting DBT |
| Account frozen or blocked for KYC | Many village households report accounts frozen over KYC. Whether DBT can still land there depends on the bank | Visit the branch with your Aadhaar, complete KYC, and ask whether your seeding is still active |
| Ration stopped | Ration e-KYC has no national deadline; states set their own. In our experience the member or card is put on hold or made inactive, not deleted | Do the free e-KYC at the ration shop's ePoS machine or in the Mera Ration 2.0 app. See Link Aadhaar with ration card |
| Can't book a subsidised LPG refill | Biometric Aadhaar authentication has been mandatory for subsidised refills since 1 Oct 2026. In our experience it's asked of all customers | Do it at delivery, at the gas showroom, or in your oil company's app |
| Pension or benefit stopped and your Aadhaar was wrongly marked dead | Benefits that need Aadhaar stop for a deactivated number | Apply in UIDAI's Annexure format to the Regional or State office. Biometrics are captured within 2 weeks; a decision is due within 30 days. See Aadhaar deactivated? Reactivate |
| Seeding Active, account working, still no money | The hold-up may be in the scheme's own records | Ask the department or office that runs the scheme. Show a screenshot of your seeding status |
Customers often update their Aadhaar mobile and expect bank OTPs to follow. They don't. Bank OTPs and UPI keep working on the number registered with the bank, so change it at the bank separately. Also, if you lock your whole Aadhaar number, bank KYC fails until you unlock it, and unlocking can be hard when UIDAI's servers are down.
What if a fingerprint check fails at a bank agent or ration shop?
Many people take DBT cash from a bank agent with a fingerprint (AePS), or give a fingerprint for ration e-KYC. Reports say biometric failures are common among labourers and elderly people, and have stopped ration, MGNREGA and pension benefits. The rule is clear: an agency must offer another way, such as an OTP, iris or face check, so the benefit is not denied.
- Is your Aadhaar number (UID) unlocked? No: a UID lock blocks every check. Unlock it with your latest VID
- Are your biometrics unlocked? No: you'll get error 330. Unlock in the Aadhaar App or by SMS (helper below)
- Give your fingerprint on the agent's or shop's device
- Did it match? No: clean your finger, try other fingers, or ask for OTP, iris or face instead
- Lock your biometrics again
- Cash or e-KYC done, and your fingerprints are protected again
- Fingerprints still fail? A biometric update at an Aadhaar centre costs ₹125. See Fingerprints not matching.
- Which checks exist? Fingerprint, iris, face and OTP are all Aadhaar authentication. See OTP, face and biometric authentication.
Lock: send GETOTP 1234, then ENABLEBIOLOCK 1234 123456 (last 4 digits of Aadhaar, then the OTP). Unlock: GETOTP 1234, then DISABLEBIOLOCK 1234 123456. Send each to 1947 from your registered mobile.
This works only on your phone. Nothing you type is sent anywhere. Never type your full Aadhaar number into any website except uidai.gov.in.
Two family members on one mobile whose Aadhaar numbers end in the same 4 digits use the last 8 digits in the second SMS. No reply to your SMS? Contact your mobile operator. All 1947 SMS formats (VID, lock, unlock): SMS command generator. For the app route and the full UID lock, see Lock Aadhaar and biometrics.
What problems come up, and how do you fix them?
| Your situation | What happens | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| No OTP on myAadhaar | Your registered mobile is not with you, or not linked to Aadhaar | Ask your bank about your seeding, or update your mobile number at an Aadhaar centre (₹75) |
| myAadhaar won't load or keeps failing | UIDAI's website is often slow or down | Try again later, or ask your bank about your seeding status |
| You changed your Aadhaar mobile; bank OTPs still go to the old number | Nothing changes on the bank side. Bank OTPs and UPI stay on the bank's number | Update the mobile number at your bank separately |
| Error 330 at a bank agent or ration shop | Your biometrics are locked | Unlock in the Aadhaar App or by SMS, then lock again afterwards |
| Bank e-KYC fails after you locked your Aadhaar | A UID lock blocks all authentication, including bank e-KYC | Unlock with your latest 16-digit VID. See Lock Aadhaar and biometrics |
| Fingerprint doesn't match | Worn or dry fingers; reported to be common among labourers and elderly people | Retry, clean the finger, try others; ask for OTP, iris or face. Then a biometric update (₹125) |
| Bank says your name or date of birth doesn't match Aadhaar | The bank can't complete KYC until the records agree | Correct the wrong record. See Fix a name or DOB mismatch |
| Money left your account through a bank agent, and you got no OTP | Possible AePS fingerprint fraud | Call 1930 or report on cybercrime.gov.in at once; lock your biometrics |
Should you go to the bank, an Aadhaar centre or the scheme office?
| Go to | For |
|---|---|
| Your bank branch | Seeding, moving or removing your Aadhaar; frozen account or KYC; changing the bank's mobile number |
| An Aadhaar centre | No OTP because your mobile isn't linked (₹75); fingerprints that keep failing (biometric update, ₹125); name or date of birth fixes |
| Your ration shop | Free ration e-KYC on the ePoS machine |
| Your gas distributor | Biometric Aadhaar authentication for LPG |
| The scheme's office or department | Seeding Active and account working, but still no payment |
| 1930 or cybercrime.gov.in | Money taken from your account without you |
Is Aadhaar compulsory for all this? According to reports of the Supreme Court's 2018 Puttaswamy judgment, Aadhaar is not mandatory for opening a bank account. It can be made mandatory for subsidies and benefits under section 7 of the Aadhaar Act.
Bank seeding from abroad
- Checking on myAadhaar needs an OTP on your registered Indian mobile. Many NRIs without a working Indian SIM can't get OTPs.
- Seeding is done by your Indian bank. Ask it whether the request can be made without a branch visit; this varies by bank.
- Changing the mobile number in Aadhaar does not change the number your bank uses. Update each one separately.
Region not right?
AePS fraud and DBT scams
- AePS fraud needs no OTP. Fraudsters take your Aadhaar number from photocopies and copy your fingerprint from property papers or with a silicone clone. Then they withdraw cash at a micro-ATM.
- Protect yourself: lock your biometrics and share only masked Aadhaar copies.
- Money gone? Call 1930 or report on cybercrime.gov.in within the "golden hour", as soon as you notice.
- Never tell an OTP to a caller, even if they say they're from your bank, UIDAI or a scheme. Never install a screen-sharing app for them. More in Aadhaar fraud and scams.
Frequently asked questions
What is Aadhaar seeding?
It means your Aadhaar number is mapped to one bank account on NPCI's mapper. That account receives your DBT payments. Your bank or NPCI's BASE portal does the seeding.
Is "Aadhaar linked to my bank" the same as "seeded"?
No. Linked usually means the bank has your Aadhaar for KYC. Seeded means the NPCI mapper points to that account for DBT. Ask your bank which one it has done.
Can DBT come into two bank accounts?
No. The mapper points to one account at a time, and that account gets the DBT money.
How do I know which bank gets my DBT?
Check your status and mapping history on NPCI's BASE portal (npci.org.in). myAadhaar's Bank Seeding Status reportedly shows whether seeding is Active, Inactive or No record.
How do I change the account that gets DBT?
Ask the bank where you want the money to seed your Aadhaar, or move it between banks on BASE. The old account then stops getting DBT.
What do Active, Inactive and No record mean?
These are the statuses secondary sources report. Active means your seeding is in place. We haven't found an official definition of Inactive or No record. In both cases, ask your bank to seed or re-seed your Aadhaar.
How long does bank seeding take?
We don't have a reliable figure; it depends on the bank. Ask your branch how long it expects, then check your status after that.
I changed my Aadhaar mobile. Will my bank OTPs change too?
No. Bank OTPs and UPI keep working on the number registered with the bank. Update it at the bank separately.
Will DBT still come if my account is frozen for KYC?
It depends on your bank's rules. Complete KYC at the branch as soon as you can, and ask whether your seeding is still active.
Will my ration be stopped if I don't do e-KYC?
There's no national deadline; states set their own. In our experience the member or card is put on hold or made inactive, not deleted. The e-KYC at the ration shop is free.
Should I lock my biometrics if I take DBT cash with my fingerprint?
Yes, a biometric lock protects you from AePS fraud. Unlock it just before your fingerprint check, then lock it again.
Bottom line
DBT money follows Aadhaar seeding, not KYC linking, and it goes to one account only. Check your status on myAadhaar or BASE, and ask your bank to seed the account you actually use. Lock your biometrics when you're not using them. For Aadhaar questions, UIDAI's free helpline is 1947; for seeding itself, your bank branch is the right place.
