The state has a unique APL Farmer card specifically for farmers in suicide-affected districts - a category no other state has. Types of Ration Card in the State

Maharashtra issues four types of ration cards under the NFSA and state PDS system. The state introduced e-ration cards for all categories through Government Resolution dated 16.05.2023:

Who Can Apply

  • Must be a permanent resident of Maharashtra with valid address proof
  • Must be at least 18 years old to apply as head of family
  • The family must not already hold a valid ration card anywhere in India
  • Holders of expired or temporary ration cards can apply for a new card
  • Newly married couples who do not have a ration card can apply
  • Annual income and household criteria as determined by the Maharashtra government for PHH and AAY categories
  • NPH (white) ration card is available for families above the poverty line for identity/address proof purposes

Documents You Need to Apply

  • Aadhaar cards of all family members
  • Proof of residence in Maharashtra - electricity bill, water bill, rent agreement, or bank passbook showing Maharashtra address
  • Income certificate (for PHH and AAY category)
  • Passport-size photographs of the head of household
  • Bank passbook (first page) of the head of household
  • Mobile number linked to Aadhaar
  • For newly married couples: marriage certificate
  • For migrants from other states: proof of surrendering previous ration card

How to Apply

Maharashtra accepts both online and offline applications. The female head of household is given preference for ration card issuance under Maharashtra’s RCMS policy.

Online via Aaple Sarkar Portal

  1. Go to aaplesarkar.mahaonline.gov.in.
  2. Register or log in using your mobile number and OTP.
  3. Search for New Ration Card in the services list or navigate to Food > Ration Card services.
  4. Fill the application form with personal details, family member details, and address.
  5. Upload scanned copies of required documents.
  6. Submit and note the Application ID for status tracking.

Offline via Tehsildar or Talathi Office

  1. Download and print the application form from mahafood.gov.in.
  2. Fill the form in block letters with all family member details and Aadhaar information.
  3. Attach self-attested copies of all required documents.
  4. Submit at your nearest Tehsildar office or Talathi office in rural areas, or at the Ward Office in urban areas.
  5. Collect the acknowledgement with your application number.

After field verification by a food department officer, the ration card is issued and linked to your nearest Fair Price Shop. The e-ration card is distributed through regional offices.

How to Check Application Status

Track your application using your Application ID:

  1. Go to aaplesarkar.mahaonline.gov.in.
  2. Click Track Your Application on the homepage.
  3. Enter your Application ID received at the time of submission.
  4. Your current application status is displayed.

How to Check the Ration Card List

The district-wise beneficiary list is available on the RCMS portal:

  1. Go to rcms.mahafood.gov.in.
  2. Click on Know Your Ration Card or the beneficiary list option.
  3. Select your District from the list of all 36 districts of Maharashtra.
  4. Select Taluka.
  5. Select your Village or Ward.
  6. Select your Fair Price Shop (FPS) dealer.
  7. The complete list of ration card holders under that FPS is displayed. Click on your ration card number to view all family member details.

How to Download e-Ration Card

Maharashtra issues e-ration cards for all categories (AAY, PHH, APL Farmer, NPH) through the RCMS system. The e-ration card facility was introduced through Government Resolution dated 16.05.2023 for all ration card holders.

  1. Go to rcms.mahafood.gov.in.
  2. Log in with your registered credentials or ration card number.
  3. Select Download e-Ration Card from the services menu.
  4. Enter your ration card number and complete verification.
  5. Download the e-ration card PDF.

Note: Distribution of e-ration cards is done through regional offices of the Food Department. If you have not received your e-ration card, contact your nearest District Supply Office or the RCMS helpdesk.

How to Add or Remove a Family Member

  1. Go to rcms.mahafood.gov.in and log in.
  2. Select Add Member or Delete Member from the ration card services menu.
  3. For adding a member: enter their Aadhaar number, name, date of birth, and relationship. Upload supporting documents (birth certificate for newborn, marriage certificate for spouse).
  4. For removing a deceased member: submit a death certificate for removal.
  5. Submit and save the acknowledgement number.

These services can also be availed at your nearest Tehsildar office or Common Service Centre (CSC).

How to Link Aadhaar

Aadhaar seeding is mandatory for all members under Maharashtra’s AePDS system. The AePDS portal at epos.mahafood.gov.in manages the biometric distribution system across all Fair Price Shops.

  • Visit your designated Fair Price Shop with Aadhaar cards of all family members and your ration card
  • Ask the FPS dealer to do Aadhaar seeding on the ePoS machine
  • Each member provides their fingerprint biometric for authentication on the ePoS device
  • Confirmation is sent to your registered mobile number

Using Your Card in Another State (ONORC)

Maharashtra NFSA ration card holders can collect food grain entitlement from any Fair Price Shop across India under the One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC) scheme. Maharashtra even provides an interstate portability dashboard at mahafood.gov.in to track ONORC transactions. Only your Aadhaar number is needed at any FPS.
