Nothing you choose leaves your phone. The wizard runs in your browser, saves nothing, and never asks for your PAN or Aadhaar number. It is a guide, not an official service.

How does this wizard work, and what rules does it use?

The wizard is a simple question tree. It asks who the PAN is for, then what you need, and sometimes one more question. Every result is copied from one of our guides, and those guides were checked against official pages on 16 Oct 2026.

  • Fees: official fees as stated by the Income Tax Department, Protean and UTIITSL, including GST. A digital application can add a ₹5.90 e-Sign charge.
  • Routes: free services run on the Income Tax e-Filing portal, incometax.gov.in. New PANs, corrections and reprints go through Protean or UTIITSL.
  • Limits: the wizard does not look at your PAN record. It can't tell whether your PAN is active, linked or correct. Use the free official checks it points to.
  • If JavaScript is off: the wizard shows every path and result in a table instead.

Myth

"If you lose your PAN card, you have to apply for a new PAN." You don't. Order a reprint (₹50 in India) or download the e-PAN, and your PAN number stays the same. Applying again gives you a second PAN, and the Assessing Officer may impose a ₹10,000 penalty.

Warning

Scams to watch for

  • Treat any call or message asking for an OTP as a red flag. An OTP can sign forms in your name.
  • Don't click links in messages saying "PAN blocked, update now" or "Get your PAN 2.0 card".
  • Nobody can sell you a "fresh" PAN to replace a lost one. That creates a duplicate PAN.

Frequently asked questions

Is this wizard an official Income Tax service?

No. It is a guide made by an independent counter. It only points you to the right official service and our guide for it.

Does the wizard need my PAN or Aadhaar number?

No. It only asks what you need. Nothing you choose leaves your phone, and nothing is saved.

I lost my PAN card. Should I apply for a new PAN?

No. Order a reprint for ₹50 in India, or download the e-PAN. Your PAN number stays the same, and a second PAN can bring a ₹10,000 penalty.

Which is cheapest: Instant e-PAN or a Protean or UTIITSL application?

Instant e-PAN is free, but it gives only a PDF and needs Aadhaar with a working linked mobile. A Protean or UTIITSL application costs ₹66 to ₹107 in India.

Can I get a PAN for my child with Instant e-PAN?

No. Instant e-PAN is not for minors. A parent applies on Form 93: ₹107 with a card, or ₹72 for e-PAN only.

I live abroad. Does the wizard work for me?

Yes. Choose "An NRI or a foreign citizen". Indian citizens abroad use Form 93; foreign citizens, including OCI holders, use Form 95. A card posted abroad costs ₹1,017.

Why does the wizard send me to Protean or UTIITSL for some things?

They are the two agencies that handle PAN applications, corrections and reprints. Free checks and Aadhaar linking run on the Income Tax e-Filing portal.

What if two results seem to fit?

Open both guides. For example, a lost card abroad and an inoperative PAN are separate problems with separate fixes.

Bottom line

Answer a few questions and the wizard points you to the right guide, form and fee. Most checks are free on the e-Filing portal. Paid services go through Protean (020-27218080) or UTIITSL (033-40802999). Never apply for a second PAN to solve a problem with the first one.
