PAN Card Correction Online (2026): CR-01 Form, Fees, Documents

To correct your PAN online, file a change request (form CR-01 for individuals) on Protean or UTIITSL. It costs ₹107 with a printed card in India (₹101 paperless), or ₹72 for e-PAN only (₹66 paperless). If Aadhaar already shows the right details, use Aadhaar e-KYC and e-Sign; nothing is posted. Your PAN number stays the same.

Which PAN correction route should you use?

Which details can you change on PAN?

In one CR-01 request you can change any of these. Tick the box next to each field you want changed. Fields you don't tick stay as they are.

  • Name: spelling, full name in place of initials, or a new name after marriage or a legal change. Name change guide →
  • Father's or mother's name, and which parent's name is printed on the card.
  • Date of birth. DOB correction guide →
  • Gender.
  • Photo and signature (for example, a child's PAN after turning 18). Photo and signature guide →
  • Address for letters and card delivery.
  • Mobile number and email. The CR-01 guidelines make both mandatory for individuals.
Important

Under the 2026 order, the name as per Aadhaar is printed on the PAN card, and initials in the Aadhaar name must be written out in full. If your Aadhaar name is wrong or short, your PAN will copy that mistake. Correct the name in Aadhaar first. Not sure the two names match? Compare them with our PAN vs Aadhaar name checker.

How much does PAN correction cost?

A correction costs the same as a new PAN. The fee depends on two things: whether you want a printed card or e-PAN only, and whether you submit paperless (e-KYC or scanned documents with e-Sign) or physically. All fees include GST.

What documents do you need for each change?

With Aadhaar e-KYC, your identity and address come from Aadhaar. Aadhaar no longer counts as date-of-birth proof (since 1 Apr 2026), so expect to upload another date-of-birth document. With the scanned or physical modes, you need a copy of your PAN plus proof of identity, address and date of birth, and proof of the change.

What you're changingProof usually acceptedCan e-KYC alone do it?
Name spelling or initialsAadhaar, passport, voter ID or driving licence showing the correct nameYes, if Aadhaar has the correct name
Name after marriageMarriage certificate, or passport showing your spouse's name; a Gazette notification for other legal name changesYes, if Aadhaar already has the new name
Date of birthBirth certificate, Class 10 certificate, passport or driving licence (not Aadhaar)No. Upload a date-of-birth proof other than Aadhaar
GenderAadhaar, passport or another ID showing genderYes, if Aadhaar is correct
PhotoA new recent colour photo (upload, or paste on the physical form)e-KYC uses your Aadhaar photo
SignatureA fresh signature (scanned image, or signed on the form)No. Use scanned or physical mode
Father's or mother's nameA document showing the parent's name, such as a birth certificate or passportUsually no. Upload or post proof
AddressAadhaar, voter ID, passport, driving licence, or a utility bill or bank statement not older than 3 monthsYes. Also free through the address update
Mobile or emailNo proof neededYes
Tip

The name on every proof must match the name you're asking for. For physical mode, use two recent colour photos with a white background, not stapled or clipped. Sign across the photo as the form shows. A thumb impression must be attested by a Magistrate, Notary or Gazetted Officer. If your PAN card is lost, the CR-01 guidelines ask for a copy of an FIR with the form. The full list of accepted proofs is printed on the CR-01 form. PAN documents list →

How long does a PAN correction take?

Paperless requests move fastest because there's nothing to post. Expect the updated e-PAN by email first, and the card by post after that.

Step 1 of 7

Choose the change request and enter your details

YouPortalOTP / payment

  1. Choose the change request and enter your details. Pick "Changes or Correction in existing PAN Data / Reprint of PAN Card", category Individual, and enter your PAN, name, date of birth, email and mobile as in Aadhaar.
  2. Note the token number and continue. A token number comes by email. It lets you resume later if you stop halfway.
  3. Choose how to submit, and whether you want a card. Pick paperless e-KYC if Aadhaar is already correct. Say No to the physical card if e-PAN is enough.
  4. Tick each field you want to change. Fill in the new details. Father's name must be filled even if you aren't changing it.
  5. Pay the fee online. Use UPI, net banking or a card. The amount depends on the mode and on the card choice.
  6. Authenticate with Aadhaar OTP. The OTP goes to the mobile linked with your Aadhaar. This e-signs the form.
  7. Save the acknowledgement. It has a 15-digit acknowledgement number for tracking. In physical mode, print it and post it with your documents.

How do you correct PAN online on Protean (NSDL)?

  1. Open the Protean online PAN application

Go to onlineservices.proteantech.in (Online PAN Application). Under Application Type, choose Changes or Correction in existing PAN Data / Reprint of PAN Card. Choose Individual.

  2. Enter your details exactly as in Aadhaar

Enter your name, date of birth, email, mobile, citizenship and PAN. Protean warns that the name and date of birth should match Aadhaar, or authentication fails. If your Aadhaar name has initials, write them out in full. Tick consent, complete the captcha and submit.

You'll know it worked when a token number arrives by email. Keep it to resume the form later.

  3. Pick a submission mode

Click Continue with PAN Application Form and choose one:

    • Submit digitally through e-KYC & e-Sign (Paperless): details and photo come from Aadhaar; you sign with an Aadhaar OTP.
    • Submit scanned images through e-Sign: upload your photo, signature and proof documents, then e-Sign.
    • Forward application documents physically: print the acknowledgement, paste photos, sign, and post it with your documents.

Also choose whether you want a physical PAN card. Say No if e-PAN is enough; it's cheaper.

  4. Tick and fill the fields to change

Tick the box next to each field you want corrected and enter the new value. Fill father's name even if it isn't changing. Select your proof documents from the lists, and upload them if you chose scanned images.

If you forget to tick a box: that field won't change, even if you typed a new value. Check every tick before you pay.

  5. Pay the fee

Pay online by UPI, net banking or card. See the fee table.

  6. e-Sign with Aadhaar OTP

Enter your Aadhaar number, click Authenticate, and enter the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile.

You'll know it worked when you can download the acknowledgement with a 15-digit number. The PDF opens with your date of birth.

  7. Post documents (physical mode only)

Print the acknowledgement, paste two recent colour photos, sign across them, and post it with self-attested copies of your proofs to Income Tax PAN Services Unit, Protean eGov Technologies Limited, 4th Floor, Sapphire Chambers, Baner Road, Baner, Pune 411045. Write "APPLICATION FOR PAN – N-" followed by your 15-digit acknowledgement number on the envelope. If your acknowledgement prints a different address, use that one. It must reach within 15 days of applying.

If the documents don't arrive: the request isn't processed. Use a tracked courier or speed post and keep the receipt.

How do you correct PAN on UTIITSL?

UTIITSL calls this Change / Correction in PAN Card. It also accepts CR-01 and CR-02 from 1 Apr 2026.

  1. Open the UTIITSL change request

Go to pan.utiitsl.com → Change/Correction in PAN Card and tap Apply for CR-01. If you stopped earlier, use the "regenerate" option to reopen your form.

  2. Choose a mode

Choose paperless Aadhaar e-KYC with e-Sign, or the physical mode where you print the form and send documents. UTIITSL says Instant e-PAN holders can also correct their PAN here in eKYC mode.

  3. Fill in the changes, pay and sign

Tick the fields to change, enter the new details, pay the fee and complete e-Sign. In physical mode, sign the printed form and submit it with your documents at a UTIITSL PAN centre, or post it to the UTIITSL regional office the portal shows.

You'll know it worked when you get an application number on screen and by email. Use it to track the request.

Can you update your PAN address for free?

Yes, if your PAN is already linked with Aadhaar and you want the same address as in Aadhaar. Both portals copy it from UIDAI after an Aadhaar OTP. No form and no fee.

Tip

This doesn't print a new card. If you want the new address on a card, order a reprint afterwards, or file a CR-01 with a card. If you want an address different from Aadhaar, use a paid CR-01 with address proof.

How do you track your PAN correction?

Use the acknowledgement number from Protean, or the application number from UTIITSL, on that portal's PAN status page. When the request is approved, the updated e-PAN arrives by email. You can also download the e-PAN free for about a month after the change. Full PAN status guide →

How do you correct a minor's PAN?

A parent or guardian files CR-01 for the child and signs as the representative. A recent photo of the child is needed. When the child turns 18, file a CR-01 to add the adult's own photo and signature; the PAN number stays the same. Minor PAN guide →

What NRIs and people abroad should know

  • You can file CR-01 online from abroad on Protean or UTIITSL. A card posted to a foreign address costs ₹1,017 (₹1,011 paperless). e-PAN only is ₹72 (₹66 paperless).
  • If you have no Aadhaar, use scanned images with e-Sign (if you can e-Sign) or post documents to the Pune address above. Your passport is the usual proof of identity, address and date of birth.
  • The form asks for your passport number if you are a non-resident. Give a foreign address with the country and ZIP code, and a mobile number with country code.
  • Foreign citizens (including OCI cardholders) may also be asked for their foreign tax ID. NRI and foreigner PAN guide →

Warning

Avoid PAN correction scams

  • The official fee is ₹66 to ₹107 in India. Sites charging ₹500–₹2,000 for "instant PAN correction" are middlemen at best.
  • No one can "correct your PAN in 1 hour" or change your PAN number. Corrections go only through Protean or UTIITSL.
  • Messages saying "your PAN will be blocked, update KYC here" are fake. Don't click the link.
  • Never share an Aadhaar OTP on a call or WhatsApp. At a shop, enter the OTP yourself and take your acknowledgement slip.

Frequently asked questions

Does my PAN number change after a correction?

No. The 10-character PAN stays the same for life. Only the details linked to it change, and you get a fresh e-PAN and card with the same number.

Can I correct my PAN without Aadhaar?

Yes, if you are exempt from Aadhaar (for example, an NRI or a foreign citizen). Use the scanned-images or physical mode with documents. If you have Aadhaar, the form asks you to quote it.

Can I change several details in one request?

Yes. The CR-01 guidelines say to tick each field you want changed, such as name, date of birth and address. The portals charge per request, not per field, as far as we can see. Attach proof for each change.

Is the correction fee refundable if my request is rejected?

We found no refund option on Protean or UTIITSL for rejected requests. Check your proofs carefully before paying, because a new request means a new fee.

How do I correct a minor's PAN?

A parent or guardian files CR-01 for the child and signs as representative. After the child turns 18, file another CR-01 to add their own photo and signature.

How many times can I correct my PAN?

We found no fixed limit. Each request is a fresh application with its own fee. Frequent changes to date of birth or name may draw extra checks, so get it right once.

Which form is used for PAN correction in 2026?

From 1 Apr 2026, individuals use CR-01 and non-individuals (companies, firms, trusts, HUFs and others) use CR-02, under Rule 158(12) of the Income-tax Rules, 2026. The old change request form is not accepted after 31 Mar 2026.

Do I need a new physical card after a correction?

No. The updated e-PAN is a valid PAN. Choose e-PAN only to pay less (₹72, or ₹66 paperless), and order a ₹50 reprint later if you need a card.

Can I correct PAN on the Income Tax e-Filing portal?

No. The e-Filing portal doesn't process PAN corrections. Use Protean or UTIITSL. UTIITSL says Instant e-PAN holders can also correct their PAN there in eKYC mode.

Will correcting PAN fix my PAN–Aadhaar linking?

It can, if the mismatch was in your PAN. Once the PAN record matches Aadhaar, link again on the e-Filing portal. A fee you already paid for late linking stays recorded against your PAN.

Bottom line

Check your Aadhaar first. If it's right, file CR-01 on Protean or UTIITSL with paperless e-KYC: ₹101 with a card or ₹66 for e-PAN only, and nothing to post. If Aadhaar is wrong, fix it before touching PAN. For an address change only, use the free Aadhaar address update.
