The Revenue Department of Government of Tripura issued the EWS Certificate which is officially called the Income and Asset Certificate for Economically Weaker Sections through the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of the applicant's sub-division. The Tehsildar and Revenue Inspector conduct field verification before the SDM issues the certificate.

With this certificate, eligible general category residents of Tripura can claim 10% reservation in central and state government jobs, TPSC (Tripura Public Service Commission) exams, TRPSC (Tripura Recruitment and Promotion Board) recruitments, IITs, NITs, central universities, NEET All India Quota seats, and various state welfare schemes.

Tripura's eDistrict portal is officially called Digital Seva and is managed by the Directorate of Information Technology, Government of Tripura. Applications are submitted through the Digital Seva portal at edistrict.tripura.gov.in, through kiosk or e-Suvidha centres, or at the SDM office directly. The DIT Tripura helpline address is: Directorate of Information Technology, ITI Road, Indranagar, Agartala, Tripura 799006. Contact: 0381-2322805.

PRTC: Tripura's Permanent Residence Certificate

The Permanent Resident of Tripura Certificate (PRTC) is a mandatory document for most government services in Tripura, including the EWS certificate application. The PRTC establishes that you are a permanent resident of Tripura. It is different from a standard domicile certificate and is unique to Tripura.

The PRTC is also applied for through the same Digital Seva portal at edistrict.tripura.gov.in. If you do not have a PRTC, apply for it first through the portal or at the SDM office before applying for the EWS certificate. The PRTC is issued by the SDM and takes up to 15 working days to process. Factor in this additional time if you are applying for PRTC and EWS together.

Tripura's Revenue Sub-Divisions and SDM Offices

Tripura has 8 districts, each divided into sub-divisions, each headed by a Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM). The SDM is the competent authority for issuing revenue certificates including the EWS certificate. When you apply through the Digital Seva portal, you select your district and sub-division, and the application is automatically routed to the concerned SDM office. The SDM initiates the verification process through the Tehsildar and Revenue Inspector.

The 8 districts of Tripura are: West Tripura, Gomati, Sipahijala, Khowai, Sepahijala, Unakoti, North Tripura, and Dhalai. Each has multiple sub-divisions with SDM offices. Contact your district's NIC website to find the SDM office for your sub-division.
