Puducherry is a Union Territory with four geographically separate enclaves - Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe, and Yanam - spread across three different states (Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh borders). Each enclave has its own regional office under the Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Puducherry. A feature unique to Puducherry's PDS: the government provides cash via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) in lieu of free rice for eligible ration card holders - State DBT amounts of Rs. 2,200 and Rs. 1,000 are credited directly to beneficiaries' bank accounts. The online portal at pdsswo.py.gov.in offers 11 distinct online services including card bifurcation and card type conversion - features not available in most other states. You can also check your ration card details by simply entering the last 4 digits of the Head of Family's Aadhaar number.

DBT Rice Scheme - What Is It and How Does It Work

This is unique to Puducherry. Instead of distributing physical rice at Fair Price Shops, the Puducherry government credits cash directly to ration card holders' bank accounts under the DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) mode for rice entitlement. Two amounts are active:

  • State DBT Rice Rs. 2,200: For eligible card holders under the state scheme
  • State DBT Rice Rs. 1,000: For eligible card holders under a different tier

Check your DBT payment status at pdsswo.py.gov.in/helpdesk/StateDbtRice.aspx. For central NFSA DBT payment status, check at pdsswo.py.gov.in/helpdesk/Payment_Status.aspx.

To receive DBT, your Aadhaar must be seeded to your ration card and your bank account must be linked to Aadhaar. If your DBT amount has not been credited, use the DBT Helpdesk at pdsswo.py.gov.in/helpdesk/.

Aadhaar Seeding and ONORC in Puducherry

Puducherry is a UT with four enclaves scattered across south India. Many Puducherry residents live and work in Chennai, Bengaluru, and other Tamil Nadu and Kerala cities close to the enclaves. Aadhaar seeding can be done online directly through pdsswo.py.gov.in under the Seeding of Aadhaar service - you do not need to visit the FPS for this in Puducherry. If the DBT cash transfer for rice is not reaching your bank account, the most common reason is incomplete Aadhaar seeding. Check and fix it at pdsswo.py.gov.in/helpdesk/. Under ONORC, Puducherry NFSA card holders can collect ration at any FPS in India and migrant workers in Puducherry from Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh can collect their home state ration at Puducherry FPS shops.
