If you received an SMS from your LPG company asking you to complete e-KYC, you may be able to finish the process from home using your smartphone. In many cases, there is no need to visit your LPG distributor or pay any fee.
However, one important requirement is often overlooked.
You need two apps, not one. Along with your LPG company's official app, you must also install the Aadhaar FaceRD app. Without the FaceRD app, Aadhaar face authentication may not work even if your LPG app is installed correctly.
This guide explains the official e-KYC process for Indane, Bharat Gas and HP Gas, the apps you need, how to complete Aadhaar face authentication from home, what to do if face verification fails, and the alternative offline methods available.

First Check: You May Not Need to Do This
Before starting the e-KYC process, first check whether you actually need to do it. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) clarified in March 2026 that this is not a fresh direction for every LPG consumer.
According to the Ministry's clarification:
- e-KYC is required only for LPG consumers who have not completed it so far.
- Non-PMUY customers who have already completed Aadhaar authentication do not need to repeat it.
- PMUY beneficiaries are required to complete e-KYC once in every financial year for continuation of targeted DBT subsidy, as per the current guidelines.
- The process can be completed from home without paying any fee.
Before doing anything, ask yourself one question. Have you already completed Aadhaar biometric authentication for this LPG connection? If yes, and you are not a PMUY beneficiary, you generally do not need to complete e-KYC again.
If you are unsure, check the status in your LPG company's official app or contact your distributor before repeating the process.
The e-KYC Deadline: What the Official Position Says
Many messages on social media claim that LPG connections will be disconnected after the deadline. That is not what the official communication says.
Customers with pending e-KYC are receiving SMS messages from the Oil Marketing Companies stating:
Dear customer, you are required to do e-KYC for receiving LPG cylinder at domestic rates. Despite earlier reminders, you have not done your e-KYC so far. You can complete e-KYC at home through your LPG company's official mobile app, through your distributor, or with the LPG delivery personnel. Failure to complete e-KYC by the date mentioned in the SMS may make you ineligible for LPG cylinders at domestic rates until e-KYC is completed.
The important point is the wording. The SMS refers to eligibility for domestic rates. It does not state that your LPG connection will be disconnected.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has also clarified that the supply of LPG refill cylinders is not affected while completing the e-KYC process.
The practical takeaway: If you have received an e-KYC reminder and your authentication is still pending, complete it as early as possible. The process is free, usually takes only a few minutes, and helps avoid any interruption in receiving LPG cylinders at applicable domestic pricing or subsidy benefits.
Three Ways to Complete LPG e-KYC
The Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) allow LPG consumers to complete e-KYC in three different ways. Choose the option that is most convenient for you.
| Method | Best for | What you need |
|---|---|---|
| 1. At home using Face Authentication | Anyone with a smartphone | Your LPG company's official app, the Aadhaar FaceRD app and your Aadhaar number |
| 2. Through the LPG delivery person | Senior citizens or anyone uncomfortable using mobile apps | Your Aadhaar details and access to the registered mobile number |
| 3. At the LPG distributor | Customers without an active Aadhaar-linked mobile number or whose face authentication fails | Aadhaar card for biometric verification |
All three methods are completely free. No distributor, delivery person or agent is authorised to charge any fee for completing LPG e-KYC.
Method 1: Complete LPG e-KYC at Home
Step 1: Install both required apps
This is the step most people miss. You need two separate apps. Installing only your LPG company's app is not enough because Aadhaar face authentication runs through the UIDAI FaceRD application.
| App | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Your LPG company's official app | Starts the LPG e-KYC process |
| Aadhaar FaceRD | Performs UIDAI face authentication in the background |
Download your LPG company's official app
| LPG Company | Official App | Android | iPhone |
|---|---|---|---|
| Indane | IndianOil ONE | Google Play Store | Apple App Store |
| Bharatgas | Hello BPCL | Google Play Store | Apple App Store |
| HP Gas | HP Pay | Google Play Store | Apple App Store |
Install the Aadhaar FaceRD app
| Application | Android | iPhone |
|---|---|---|
| Aadhaar FaceRD | Google Play Store | Apple App Store |
You do not have to open the Aadhaar FaceRD app separately. Once installed, it automatically opens whenever your LPG company's app starts Aadhaar face authentication.
Before installing, check the publisher name. The genuine FaceRD application is published by UIDAI. Avoid downloading similarly named apps from unknown publishers.
If FaceRD is not installed, the face authentication usually fails. This is the most common reason people are unable to complete LPG e-KYC at home.
Step 2: Log in to your LPG account
Open your LPG company's official app and sign in using the mobile number registered against your LPG connection. Using another mobile number may prevent the account from opening correctly.
Step 3: Open the LPG e-KYC option
Go to My Profile, Consumer Profile or LPG Details, depending on your company's app, and select the e-KYC option.
Step 4: Give your consent
Read the declaration carefully and accept the terms. This authorises Aadhaar-based authentication for your LPG connection.
Step 5: Enter your Aadhaar number
Type your 12-digit Aadhaar number carefully and verify every digit before proceeding.
Step 6: Complete Face Authentication
Select Face Authentication. Your LPG app automatically opens the Aadhaar FaceRD application to verify your identity.
For a successful scan:
- Stand or sit in bright, even lighting.
- Hold the phone at eye level and keep it steady.
- If recognition fails, remove spectacles, masks or caps and try again.
- Keep your face fully visible against a plain background.
- Follow every instruction displayed on the screen, including blinking or turning your face if prompted.
Step 7: Submit the request
After successful authentication, submit the request and save the confirmation screen or acknowledgement for your records.
Most e-KYC requests are updated within 24 to 48 hours. You can check the status later from the same LPG app.
Method 2: Complete e-KYC Through the LPG Delivery Person
This is the easiest option for consumers who are not comfortable using smartphones. The facility is available through the LPG delivery staff.
How it works:
- Be available when your LPG cylinder is delivered.
- Inform the delivery person that you want to complete LPG e-KYC.
- The delivery executive starts the verification process using the authorised application on their official device.
- You receive an OTP on the mobile number linked with your Aadhaar.
- Provide the OTP to complete the verification.
This method is particularly useful for senior citizens, people who are not familiar with smartphones, or families who prefer assistance at home.
Keep your Aadhaar card or Aadhaar number ready before the delivery arrives to complete the process quickly.
Method 3: Complete e-KYC at Your LPG Distributor
If you cannot complete e-KYC through the mobile app or the delivery person, visit your authorised LPG distributor with your Aadhaar card.
The distributor completes the authentication using a biometric fingerprint device.
This option is recommended if:
- Your Aadhaar-linked mobile number is inactive or unavailable.
- Face authentication repeatedly fails.
- You do not own a smartphone.
- You prefer biometric fingerprint verification.
The Ministry has clarified that consumers are not required to crowd distributor offices. Visit whenever it is convenient for you during working hours.
If you do not know your distributor's address or contact number, open your LPG company's official mobile app or visit its official website to view your consumer profile and distributor details.
If Your Aadhaar Mobile Number Is No Longer Active
This is the only situation that commonly prevents online LPG e-KYC.
Both the mobile app method and the delivery person method depend on OTP verification through the mobile number linked with your Aadhaar. If that number is inactive, lost or changed, the OTP cannot be delivered.
You have two options.
- Visit your LPG distributor and complete biometric fingerprint authentication instead of OTP verification.
- Update your Aadhaar mobile number at an Aadhaar Enrolment or Update Centre. You can locate the nearest centre through the official UIDAI website.
If your only goal is to complete LPG e-KYC quickly, visiting the distributor is usually the faster option. However, updating your Aadhaar mobile number is recommended because many other government services also depend on Aadhaar OTP authentication.
The same Aadhaar-linked mobile number is used for several welfare schemes and services. If you are updating it for LPG e-KYC, consider checking other Aadhaar-based services as well.
Free of Cost: Never Pay Anyone for LPG e-KYC
The Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have repeatedly stated that LPG e-KYC is completely free of cost. Whether you complete it through the mobile app, the LPG delivery person or your distributor, no fee is payable.
Customers are also being warned about cyber fraud linked to LPG e-KYC. Fraudulent calls, fake websites and WhatsApp messages usually increase whenever an important verification drive is underway.
Follow these safety tips:
- Never pay anyone for completing LPG e-KYC.
- Do not share your Aadhaar OTP with anyone claiming to be from your LPG company.
- Avoid clicking links received through SMS, WhatsApp or social media. Use only your LPG company's official mobile app.
- Install only official apps. For face authentication, download only the Aadhaar FaceRD application published by UIDAI.
- If a delivery executive is helping with e-KYC, the entire process should take place in your presence.
If you become the victim of an online fraud, immediately call the National Cyber Crime Helpline 1930 and lodge a complaint through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. Acting quickly significantly improves the chances of stopping fraudulent transactions.

How to Check Your LPG e-KYC Status
- Open your LPG company's official mobile app.
- Log in using the mobile number linked to your LPG connection.
- Open My Profile, Consumer Profile or LPG Details.
- Check the e-KYC Status or the DBT/Subsidy section.
Your status may appear as Completed, Under Process or Pending, depending on the company and the stage of verification.
Allow up to 48 hours for the status to update after completing authentication. If it still shows pending after that, contact your LPG distributor with your consumer number.
Face Authentication Failed? Try These Solutions
- Aadhaar FaceRD is not installed. Install the official UIDAI FaceRD app from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.
- Poor lighting. Face natural light or a bright lamp. Avoid standing with a bright light behind you.
- Spectacles or face covering. Remove them and try again.
- Phone movement. Hold the phone steady or rest your elbows on a table.
- Outdated phone software. Update your operating system and retry.
- Incorrect login number. Sign in using the mobile number registered against your LPG connection.
- Authentication keeps failing. Complete e-KYC through your LPG delivery person or visit your distributor for biometric verification.
IndianOil, Bharatgas and HP Gas also provide official self-help videos and customer guidance through their websites and mobile apps. Prefer these official resources over unofficial videos shared on social media.
Other Important LPG Changes
- Delivery Authentication Code (DAC). In areas where DAC has been implemented, the OTP or authentication code must be shared with the delivery executive before handing over the cylinder.
- PMUY subsidy. Eligible PMUY beneficiaries continue to receive subsidy as per the latest Government of India guidelines.
- Switching to PNG. Consumers shifting permanently to piped natural gas (PNG) should surrender their LPG connection according to the applicable OMC procedure.
- Lightweight LPG cylinders. Composite cylinders such as Indane XtraLite, HP Navya and Bharatgas Lite ZIP are being expanded to more locations.
- Commercial LPG prices. Commercial cylinder prices are revised periodically by the Oil Marketing Companies.
