Around 26 lakh Annapurna Yojana applications have been rejected after the West Bengal government's verification drive. If your application shows Rejected on the socialregistry.wb.gov.in portal, do not panic. This guide tells you why rejections happen, what each rejection reason means, and the exact steps to take before the 25 August 2026 deadline.

Why Was Your Application Rejected

The West Bengal government gave specific reasons for the 26 lakh rejections. Check which one applies to you, because your next step depends entirely on the reason.

Reason 1: Citizenship or Domicile Issue

Your application was flagged because the government's verification found doubts about your citizenship or your status as a permanent resident of West Bengal. This is the most common rejection reason covering the majority of the 26 lakh rejections announced by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on 1 July 2026.

Reason 2: Name Deleted During SIR 2026

Your name was removed from the electoral roll during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026 process and you did not apply under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) or you do not have a pending tribunal case. Women identified as ASDD - Absent, Shifted, Dead, or Duplicate - during SIR 2026 were excluded from automatic Lakshmir Bhandar migration to Annapurna Yojana.

Important exception: If your name was deleted during SIR 2026 but you have applied for citizenship under CAA and have a pending tribunal case, you remain eligible. The government has confirmed this exemption. Visit your BDO or SDO office with your CAA application receipt and tribunal case acknowledgement to reinstate your benefits.

Reason 3: Government Employee or Pensioner

A family member is a serving or retired government employee drawing a regular salary or pension. This disqualifies the household from receiving Annapurna Yojana benefits.

Reason 4: Income Tax Payer

You or a family member filed an Income Tax Return. Income tax payers are excluded from the scheme.

Reason 5: Document Error or Mismatch

An error in your application caused verification failure. Common mistakes include incorrect Aadhaar number, wrong bank account number, name mismatch between Aadhaar and application, incorrect IFSC code, joint bank account submitted instead of a single-holder account, or address in the application not matching the Aadhaar address.

What You Can Do Based on Your Rejection Reason

If Rejected for Citizenship or Domicile Issue

  1. Visit your nearest BDO office (rural areas) or SDO office (urban areas) with your Temporary Application ID
  2. Carry documents that prove you are a permanent resident of West Bengal and an Indian citizen - Aadhaar card, Voter ID, ration card, and birth certificate or any official document showing long-term West Bengal residency
  3. Ask the officer to review your application and confirm what specific document is missing or flagged
  4. If eligible, submit a fresh application at the BDO or SDO office with the correct documents before 25 August 2026

If Rejected Because of SIR 2026 Voter Roll Deletion

  1. Check whether you have a CAA application receipt or a pending tribunal case. If yes, carry these documents to your BDO or SDO office immediately
  2. The government has confirmed that CAA applicants with pending tribunal cases remain eligible for Annapurna Yojana benefits until a final decision is reached
  3. If you do not have a CAA case, check with the BDO or SDO whether your electoral roll status can be updated and whether you can reapply once your name is restored

If Rejected for Document Error or Mismatch

  1. There is currently no online edit facility on the socialregistry.wb.gov.in portal after submission. You cannot correct your application yourself through the portal login
  2. Visit your nearest BDO office (rural) or SDO office (urban) with your Temporary Application ID, the correct documents, and a written request explaining what needs to be corrected
  3. Authorised officials may be able to update the incorrect details through their administrative login, subject to government guidelines
  4. The Government of West Bengal is expected to introduce an online correction facility. Keep checking the portal for any updates
  5. All corrections must be completed within the 90-day enrolment window ending 25 August 2026. Do not delay

If Rejected Because of Government Employment or Income Tax

These are firm eligibility exclusions. If you or a family member is a serving or retired government employee drawing a regular salary or pension, or if any family member is an income tax payer, the household does not qualify for Annapurna Yojana. There is no appeal route for these rejections under the current scheme rules.

How to Find Out Why Your Annapurna Yojana Application Was Rejected

The socialregistry.wb.gov.in portal shows your application status but does not always display a detailed rejection reason in the citizen login. To find out the exact reason your application was rejected, you need to visit the concerned government office in person.

  • If you live in a rural area, visit your nearest Block Development Office (BDO). Carry your Temporary Application ID, Aadhaar card, and the mobile number you registered with on the portal.
  • If you live in an urban area outside Kolkata, visit your nearest Sub-Divisional Office (SDO) with the same documents.
  • If you live within the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) area, visit your nearest KMC municipal office. KMC authorised officers handle Annapurna Yojana verification and rejections for all applications within the KMC jurisdiction.

At the office, tell the concerned official that your application status shows Rejected on the portal and you want to know the specific reason. Give them your Temporary Application ID. The concerned official will check your application records and explain the reason for rejection or advise you about the next course of action, depending on the information available in the system.

Can You Submit a Fresh Application After Rejection

Yes, if your rejection was for a correctable reason such as a document error or a domicile issue that you can resolve with proper proof. The application window runs until 25 August 2026.

Do not submit a second application if your first application is still being processed or corrected. Duplicate applications create records conflicts and can delay your case further. Before reapplying, visit the BDO or SDO office first to understand whether a correction on the existing application is possible or whether a fresh application is the right step.

How to Check Your Annapurna Yojana Application Status

You can check the latest status of your Annapurna Yojana application through the official Social Registry Portal. Keep your registered mobile number with you before you begin, as an OTP will be required to log in.

  1. Open the Social Registry Portal in your browser.
  2. Click on Access Citizen Portal on the homepage.
  3. Select your district from the available list.
  4. Enter the mobile number that you used while submitting your Annapurna Yojana application.
  5. Click Send OTP, enter the OTP received on your mobile phone, and complete the login process.
  6. After logging in, your application dashboard will open. Scroll down to view the current status of your application.

Your application will generally display one of the following status messages:

Application Approved

If your application shows Approved, it means the verification process has been completed successfully and you have been included as an eligible Annapurna Yojana beneficiary. Your Rs. 3,000 monthly assistance will be credited to your Aadhaar-linked single-holder bank account as per the Government's payment schedule.

If your application is approved but you have not received the payment, first make sure that your Aadhaar is linked with your bank account and that the account is active, operational and held in your own name.

Application Rejected

If your application status shows Rejected, it means your application could not be approved during the verification process. The citizen portal may not always display the detailed reason for rejection.

To know the exact reason, visit your nearest BDO Office (for rural areas), SDO Office (for urban areas), or the concerned Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) office if you live within the KMC area. Carry your Temporary Application ID and other relevant documents. The concerned official will check your application records and explain the reason for rejection. Based on your case, you will also be informed whether your application can be corrected or whether you may submit a fresh application, if permitted under the scheme guidelines.

Payment Failure

If the status shows Payment Failure, your application has already been approved, but the financial assistance could not be transferred to your bank account. This usually happens because your Aadhaar is not seeded with your bank account, the bank account is inactive or dormant, or a joint bank account was provided instead of a single-holder account.

Visit your bank branch and request Aadhaar seeding for your active single-holder account, if it has not already been completed. After updating your banking details, visit the concerned BDO or SDO office with your Application ID and bank passbook so that the concerned authority can verify the updated information, wherever required.

Important: If your application shows Rejected or Payment Failure, do not wait until the last moment. Contact the concerned office as early as possible so that any eligible correction or further action can be completed within the time allowed by the Government.

Where to Submit a Fresh Application

  • Online through the official portal at socialregistry.wb.gov.in
  • Offline at your nearest BDO office (rural areas)
  • Offline at your nearest SDO office (urban areas)
  • At municipality offices for urban local body areas
  • At Janakalyan Shibir camps organised across all districts. These camps have dedicated Annapurna Yojana counters and officials who can help with reapplication and corrections on the spot

Documents to Carry When You Visit BDO or SDO Office

  • Temporary Application ID from your original application
  • Aadhaar Card (original and photocopy)
  • Voter ID Card
  • Ration Card
  • Bank passbook showing your single-holder account with Aadhaar seeding
  • Documents related to your rejection reason - CAA receipt, tribunal case acknowledgement, residency proof, or corrected bank details as applicable

Check Your Aadhaar-Bank Account Linking Before Reapplying

Before submitting any fresh application, verify that your Aadhaar is seeded with your bank account. DBT payments go only to an Aadhaar-linked single-holder bank account. If this is not in order, your fresh application will also fail at the payment stage even if approved.

Go to myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in, click Check Aadhaar/Bank Linking Status, and verify with your Aadhaar number and OTP. If your Aadhaar is not linked to your bank account, visit your bank branch and ask them to seed your Aadhaar to your account. This is free and takes 2 to 3 working days.

The 25 August 2026 Deadline

The Annapurna Yojana application window closes on 25 August 2026. All corrections, fresh applications, and document submissions must happen before this date. After the deadline, no new applications will be accepted under the current enrolment window. If you have been rejected and believe you are eligible, act now and do not wait.
