In Rajasthan, applying for a caste certificate is tightly integrated with the state's eMitra and SSO ecosystem. Unlike many other states where you can apply independently, Rajasthan routes all government services including caste certificates through a single digital identity called the SSOID (Rajasthan Single Sign-On ID). Whether you apply online or through an eMitra kiosk, you need an SSOID and your Jan Aadhaar (Rajasthan's family identity card) to get started. This guide explains exactly how to apply, what Rajasthan-specific documents you need, and what benefits become available once your SC certificate is ready.

Scheduled Castes Notified in Rajasthan

Rajasthan has 59 castes officially notified as Scheduled Castes under the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order, 1950. There is no income limit to apply. If your caste is in the Rajasthan SC notification, you are eligible regardless of your economic status.

Rajasthan's Backward Class Categories: What SC Applicants Should Know

Rajasthan has multiple backward class certificate categories, not just SC/ST and OBC. The categories are:

  • Anusuchit Jati (SC): Scheduled Castes
  • Anusuchit Janjati (ST): Scheduled Tribes
  • Anya Pichda Varg (OBC): Other Backward Classes
  • Vishesh Pichda Varg (SBC): Special Backward Category
  • Atipichda Varg (MBC): Most Backward Classes
  • Vimukta, Ghumakkad aur Ardha Ghumakkad Janjati (VJNT): Denotified, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic communities

When applying, select Anusuchit Jati (SC) as your category. Do not confuse your category with OBC, SBC, or MBC even if your community has historically been called "backward" in casual usage. Your community must specifically be in the SC notification to apply for an SC certificate.

Two Rajasthan-Specific Documents You Need

SSOID (Rajasthan Single Sign-On ID)

The SSOID is Rajasthan's digital identity, required to access all government services online including the eMitra portal for caste certificate. If you do not have an SSOID, register at sso.rajasthan.gov.in for free using your Aadhaar card, Jan Aadhaar number, or mobile number.

Jan Aadhaar (Rajasthan Family ID)

Jan Aadhaar is Rajasthan's state-specific family identity card. It replaced the earlier Bhamashah card and links all family members to a single family ID. Many government services in Rajasthan, including eMitra applications, require your Jan Aadhaar number. If your family does not have a Jan Aadhaar, enrol at the nearest eMitra kiosk or through the official Rajasthan government portal.

Issuing Authority

The SC caste certificate in Rajasthan is issued by the Tehsildar or the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of your area, working under the Revenue Department. The Patwari (village-level revenue officer) may conduct field verification before the certificate is issued.

Documents Required for Rajasthan SC Certificate

Before applying, keep the following documents ready. The Revenue Department may ask for additional documents if any information requires further verification.

  • Identity Proof: Aadhaar Card for identity verification.
  • Jan Aadhaar: Jan Aadhaar Card or Jan Aadhaar enrolment number to verify your family details in Rajasthan.
  • Scheduled Caste Proof: Existing SC Certificate of your father, mother, grandfather, grandmother, or another close blood relative. If such a certificate is unavailable, school records or other government documents mentioning your Scheduled Caste community may also be accepted as supporting evidence.
  • Residence Proof: Rajasthan Domicile Certificate (Mool Niwas Praman Patra), Ration Card, voter ID, electricity bill, or any other document accepted by the Revenue Department.
  • Date of Birth Proof: Birth Certificate, school leaving certificate, or any other government-issued document showing your date of birth.
  • Passport-Size Photograph: A recent colour photograph. You can also refer to these passport-size photo guidelines.
  • Additional Supporting Documents (if required): During verification, the Tehsildar or Patwari may ask for additional family records, educational certificates, or other supporting documents if there is any doubt regarding your caste or residence.

Tip: Ensure that your name, father's name, address, and other personal details are the same in your Aadhaar Card, Jan Aadhaar, and supporting documents. Mismatched information can delay the verification process.

How to Apply for Rajasthan SC Certificate

You can apply for a Scheduled Caste (SC) Certificate in Rajasthan either from home through the official eMitra Portal or by visiting your nearest eMitra Kiosk. Before applying, make sure you have an active SSO ID, Jan Aadhaar details, and all supporting documents ready.

Method 1: Apply Online Through SSO and eMitra

If you prefer applying yourself, Rajasthan provides an online facility through the SSO Portal and the eMitra Portal. The application can be completed without visiting any government office unless additional verification is required.

  1. Visit the Rajasthan SSO Portal. If you do not already have an SSO ID, create one using your Aadhaar Card, Jan Aadhaar number, or registered mobile number.
  2. After signing in, open the eMitra service from your SSO dashboard.
  3. Search for Jati Praman Patra (Caste Certificate) under the Revenue Department services.
  4. Select Anusuchit Jati (SC) as your certificate category.
  5. Enter your personal information, Jan Aadhaar number, caste name, address, and other requested details exactly as they appear in your official records.
  6. Upload scanned copies of the required documents in the prescribed format.
  7. Before submitting the application, review every detail carefully. Incorrect caste names, address details, or family information can delay verification.

  9. After submission, the Revenue Department may conduct local verification through the concerned Patwari wherever required.
  10. Once the verification is complete and the application is approved by the competent authority, log in to your SSO account and download the digitally signed SC Certificate.

Application Fee: Applying online through the official eMitra Portal is free of cost.

Method 2: Apply Through eMitra Kiosk

If you are not comfortable using the online portal, visit your nearest eMitra Kiosk. The operator will complete the application process and upload your documents through the official government system.

  1. Carry your Aadhaar Card, Jan Aadhaar Card, caste proof documents, domicile certificate, photograph, and any other supporting records.
  2. The eMitra operator fills in your application form and uploads all required documents after verifying the information provided by you.
  3. Check all details carefully before the application is submitted.
  4. Pay the prescribed service charge and collect the acknowledgement receipt containing your application reference number.
  5. Your application is forwarded to the concerned revenue authorities for verification and approval.
  6. Once the certificate is issued, you can either download it through your SSO account or collect a printed copy from the eMitra Kiosk.
