Namma Arasu is an official WhatsApp-based chatbot developed by the Tamil Nadu e-Governance Agency (TNeGA) in partnership with Meta. The platform was launched by Tamil Nadu IT Minister P. Thiaga Rajan on 08-01-2026 as part of the state's push toward citizen-first digital governance.
Through a single conversational interface, residents can interact with multiple government departments without visiting offices or navigating different portals.
In phase 1 of the Namma Arasu Namma Kaiyil, 51 services of 16 departments are now live on the WhatsApp which includes :-
- Local Body Department Services.
- Hindu Religious & Charitable Endowments Department Devotee-Centric Services.
- TNEB Bill Payment.
- And Various Other Citizen Facing Services.
Purpose Behind Launching Namma Arasu
The core objective of the Namma Arasu initiative is to reduce the burden on citizens who depend on physical visits to e-Seva centres for routine services. By shifting services to a WhatsApp-based platform, the government aims to improve convenience, reduce waiting time, and ensure transparency in service delivery.
The chatbot also supports Tamil Nadu's larger vision of inclusive digital governance by reaching citizens through a platform already widely used across urban and rural areas.

At present, the Namma Arasu WhatsApp Chatbot provides access to around 51 government services. These services cover a wide range of departments and public needs, including :-
- Downloading government-issued certificates.
- Utility bill and tax payments.
- Welfare scheme-related services.
- Property and land registration support.
- Ration card services.
- Grievance filing and tracking.
- Temple donations and religious services.
- Tourism-related bookings and information.

Advanced Intent-Based Conversational Design
Namma Arasu uses an advanced intent-based conversational system instead of basic keyword-driven commands. This allows the chatbot to understand the context and purpose of user queries more accurately.

Accessing Namma Arasu Services
The Tamil Nadu Government has kept the process of using the Namma Arasu WhatsApp Chatbot extremely simple.
By following the methods outlined below, citizens can easily access the platform and avail a wide range of government services without visiting offices or navigating complex systems.
- To begin with, an individual needs to save the Official WhatsApp Number of Namma Arasu i.e. "+91 7845 252525" on their mobile phone in order to access the government services.
- After saving the number, the user needs to open the WhatsApp Chat and type "Hi" to initiate the conversation with the Namma Arasu Chatbot.
- A welcome message will appear, prompting the user to click on "Select Department" to proceed and explore the available government services.

- The user must then choose a department relevant to the service they wish to access, which will allow the chatbot to display the specific services available under that department.

- Once the department is selected, a list of services under that department will appear, and the user needs to choose the specific service they want to access.

- After selecting the service, the Namma Arasu WhatsApp Chatbot will ask for additional details in the chat, which the user needs to provide to complete the request.
- After verifying all the details and confirming their accuracy, the service request will be successfully delivered through the chat itself by the Namma Arasu WhatsApp Chatbot.
