A domicile certificate is a document that serves as evidence by an individual to show that he/she is a part of a particular location. J&K domicile certificate is an authenticity that a citizen of the Jammu and Kashmir state is residing. In Jammu and Kashmir, the domicile certificate is given by the circle officer, Village Administrative Officer (VAO) or revenue inspector.

โœ… Eligibility of Domicile Certificate in Jammu and Kashmir

  • An individual who has lived a lifetime of fifteen years within the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir and their children.
  • An individual having a duration of seven years of education and having appeared in the 10th or 12th examination of a learning institution located in the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
  • The Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner (Migrants) in Jammu and Kashmir has registered a person as a migrant and his or her children.
  • Offspring of Central Government officials, Central Government Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) and autonomous body officers, All India Services officers, Central Universities and recognised Central Government research institutes or All India statutory body ten years of service in Jammu and Kashmir.
  • The children of the residents of Jammu and Kashmir who do not live in Jammu and Kashmir because of employment, business or other professional or vocational reasons.

๐Ÿ“„ List of Documents Required to Apply Domicile Certificate in Jammu and Kashmir

Under the rules mentioned by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, the following classes of individuals are to receive domicile status :-

  • Aadhaar card
  • Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) of self or parents.
  • Birth certificate
  • Evidence of identity of self or parents.
  • Evidence of address, e.g. ration, Voter ID, PAN card or utility bills.
  • District Chief Education Officer (CEO) certified certificate of education.
  • Certificate of registration as a migrant (In case of migrants)

๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ Online Application for Jammu and Kashmir Domicile Certificate

  • The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has transformed the way the domicile certificate application. It is now done into a fully digital process Jansugam Portal. The applicants can easily do it at the comfort of their homes by the following steps:
    • Go to the Jansugam portal and click on login.

    • In the Login Page, click on the Sign up for MeriPehchaan.

    • Kindly fill the necessary requirements in the form.

    • Once registered, log in to the Jansugam portal with the use of the username and password.
    • Go to the option at the top by clicking on the its application services and then choosing the option of viewing all available services.
    • Look and find the option of Application of Issuance of Domicile Certificate and press it.
    • Complete the application form domicile certificate, add the necessary documents and submit it.
    • Application reference number will also be provided and the same can be used to monitor the application status.

๐Ÿงพ Process to Check the Application Status of Domicile Certificate in Jammu and Kashmir

  • Visit the Jansugam Portal.
  • On the homepage, click on the option of Track Application.
  • Choose through application reference number and put the application reference number.
  • Click on Application Submission Date, fill in the date, captcha code and click on submit.
  • Status of the application of the domicile certificate will be shown.

โฑ๏ธ Processing Time

  • It takes approximately 30 days to receive a domicile certificate in Jammu and Kashmir.

๐Ÿ”ท Option for Offline Applications

  • Although online mode is preferred, applicants may still apply offline as per the available guidelines. For offline application, the applicant or authorized person can visit the Revenue Department office or Tehsildar's office with the required documents. However, the government is encouraging applicable online applications as it will expedite the processing and facilitate ease.

๐Ÿ’ฐ Application Fee

  • According to sources, a domicile certificate does not usually impose any application fees in Jammu and Kashmir, as it is generally free.
