📘 Introduction

A Domicile Certificate (also known as a Residence Certificate) is an official document issued by the State Government to confirm that a person resides in a particular state or union territory. In Uttar Pradesh (UP), this certificate is essential for availing various state-specific benefits such as :-

  • Reservation in educational institutions
  • Government job applications under state quota
  • State welfare schemes
  • Land or property-related benefits
  • Local electoral rolls, etc.

✅ Eligibility Criteria

  • Born in Uttar Pradesh with ancestral residence in the state.
  • Continuous residence in Uttar Pradesh for the last 3 years.
  • Parents/ Guardians are permanent residents of Uttar Pradesh.
  • Government employee posted and residing in Uttar Pradesh.
  • A person married with the permanent resident of Uttar Pradesh.

📑 Required Documents

  • Self Declaration.
  • Ration Card.
  • Latest Electricity Bill.
  • Voter Identity Card.
  • Education related Documents (If Any)
  • Recent Photo.
  • Aadhaar Card.

🧾 Application Process

Option 1: Online Application via eDistrict UP Portal

  • Applicant can now make their Domicile Certificate (अधिवास स्‍थान/ निवास प्रमाण पत्र) of Uttar Pradesh Government by just sitting at home online.
  • Uttar Pradesh Government has a dedicated portal through which applicant can apply and generate their Domicile Certificate.
  • Visit https://edistrict.up.gov.in
  • Click on Login and Select Citizen Login (eSathi)

  • Portal will redirect you to on eSathi Portal of Uttar Pradesh Government.

  • Click on New User Registration. (नवीन उपयोगकर्ता पंजीकरण)

  • Enter the below mentioned details in the registration form.

  • Portal will send a PIN on the registered mobile number of the user.
  • Login with the help of Login ID and PIN on the portal.

  • Change the PIN and set your own password.
  • After Login, Select Domicile Certificate/ Niwas Praman Patra.

  • Fill your Aadhaar Card Number which will be verified by the portal through OTP.

  • Family ID is mandatorily required to apply for Uttar Pradesh Government's Domicile Certificate.
  • Fill the personal and contact details in the application form.
  • Attach all the required documents.
  • Applicant will have to pay a nominal service fees of Rs. 15/-.
  • Application Number will be generated by the portal through which applicant can trace their application.
  • After the approval from Tehsildar Office, Download the Domicile Certificate.

Option 2: Through CSC Centre

  • Applicant can also apply for UP Domicile Certificate by visiting their nearest CSC Centre.
  • Locate your nearest CSC Centre. (Common Service Centre)
  • Visit the centre with your all documents.
  • CSC Centre agent will fill the domicile certificate form on behalf of applicant and upload all the relevant documents after scanning it.
  • An acknowledgement receipt will be provided by the CSC Centre agent to the applicant for future reference.
  • Pay the fees to the agent and wait for approval.

  • Carry original documents for verification
  • Check certificate details for accuracy
  • Keep a scanned PDF for future use
  • Some schemes may require renewal if older than 3 years

  • Application Status of Domicile Certificate of UP can be check on eDistrict Portal.
  • Open the eDistrict UP Portal and Click on "Application Status".

📥 How to Download the Domicile Certificate

  • Login on the eSathi UP Portal with your Login ID and Password.
  • Click on Nistarit Aavedan. (निस्तारित आवेदन)
  • List of Applications will appear which was submitted by the applicant.
  • Choose the Domicile Certificate, Click on View Certificate and Download it.

⏱️ Processing Time

  • The usual processing time to issue domicile certificate in Uttar Pradesh is 15– to 20 working days.

💰 Application Fee

  • If you fill the Domicile Certificate form by yourself on eSathi UP Portal then the application fees is Rs. 15/-.
  • But if you apply for Uttar Pradesh Government's Domicile Certificate through CSC Centre/ eDistrict Centres then the minimum application fees is Rs. 30/-.

📜 Validity

  • Validity of the Domicile Certificate is lifetime. No need to renew it.
